Looking at the actual rear side pictures, it’s clearly still just a NUC board inside.

Design and manufacture costs were likely the least factor in determining its price tag, rather the often found rationale amongst high end audio aficionados that performance is directly correlated to flashy looks and price.

There are NUC, NUC like or Mini ITX boards in pretty much all premium servers theses days. Even in those that apparently sound better than RoonOS on a NUC.

Where the new top-tier server surpasses its predecessor is in performance quality

Don’t ya just love it?

Way of the world I suppose and if there is a market for this sort of thing, why not let Roon take advantage of it, and hopefully improve the overall functionality and “performance quality” for the rest of us with profits made from it.

Looking at the photos, neither does Roon. Sorry, but compared to the original Nucleus, which managed to look understated and distinctive at the same time, that’s… pretty ugly.

Roon is selling this at a HI-Fi prices without publishing spec’s. It does not matter whether it makes a difference or not, what is inside the box? The finish options are beyond what most audiophile companies offer, which is not lost on me, because of the disdain for snakeoil in these forums, which Roon is well aware of.

Two questions.

  1. Two USB A ports: one 2.0 (optimized output for DAC) and another one 3.0 (for USB sticks and HDD) ???
  2. Price in Europe ???

I noticed advancement in internal components was mentioned. Maybe since they are sort of linked to Samsung they will start using more reliable NVME drives to cut down on failures. That would get me interested. The number of posts in the forum for drive related failures has scared me off.

Roon Nucleus Titan is not for everyone. Neither are $100,000 music systems and 800,000 music tracks. If you don’t want a Roon Nucleus Titan, don’t buy one. I’m sure there are some here who will jump on it just because it’s expensive, and will proudly display it in a conspicuous place. Roon customers are a diverse bunch.

That said, it’s not something I would ever buy unless I had a huge library and the Nucleus Titan was the only server that could deal with it effectively.

Have you seen the Nucleus Titan @CES? Outstanding product design, a real beauty! Saw the pictures and immediately thought: would love to have one in my living room.

Really do not understand why this product is occasioning hostile feedback. It might be a bit more expensive, but what is the problem with expensive? Even if the main purpose is to make it look posh and make some rich guys love roon - isn’t that a great thing for everyone of us?

I’m going to guess that $3700 comes with no hard drive. Notice they call storage…“options”. Anyway, if they’re spending most of the nomenclature mentioning aesthetics, it likely means they’re not breaking any new ground here. Just the same old thing wrapped in velvet…so to speak.

Exactly Jim, I have seen plenty of the systems shown here in the forum where this new version will fit right into. Speaker pricing is all over the spectrum, why this is different I don’t exactly understand. Casio vs Omega watches again.

Exactly. Someone recently posted their $67,000 speakers in the “What Gear Did You Buy in 2023” thread and people had nothing but praise. Why is the Roon Nucleus Titan any different?

This is not about SQ.

The Roon Nucleus Titan is not for me because I don’t need one and don’t want one. I have a Roon Nucleus that I paid $1119. However, there is obviously a demand for this or Roon/Harmon would not have introduced it.

EDIT: I am not a fan of the look of it. If I wanted/needed one, I would order with a black metal top piece.

Some people might argue streamers, CD players and cables also have little to nothing to do with sound quality. Does it mean there should not be expensive ones or they meet defeating criticism as well?

Why is is not possible to except that some people like beautiful things or those made with craftsmanship or simply look nice in their environment or simply work hassle-free? This all is about luxury, user experience and enjoyment. Many people are not in the market for the cheapest solution just working anyhow. If they were, no one would need roon. Spotify for free would do the job. No one would need an iPhone, cheapest Smartphone would do. No one would need a Mercedes-Benz, Dacia would be fine.

I like the Nucleus Titan. Would buy it simply because it looks great.

Here we go again …
It means nothing for Nucleus or NUC owners, it’s a new, very expensive nucleus that will be bought by people with more money than sense.
Why wouldn’t previous versions retain full access to all features?
Nothing has changed, I couldn’t be less interested in a Nucleus & I doubt Roon Labs will be forcng people to buy someting this insanely expensive, they would lose most of their user base.

“Nucleus Titan, starting at $3,699 base price (U.S.)” I can’t stop laughing.

Looking at the rear panel, it looks like a 11 or 13th gen NUC board in a more fancy case.

Not surprising, since the Intel boards used in the original Nucleus/Nucleus+ are no longer available (at least not in quantities - you can still get them from various Internet vendors, but not from Intel directly).

Lets hope they have also switched to much more reliable (albeit more expensive) Samsung SSDs, which will improve the overal reliability of the system.

If you don’t have a vast library of 20-30k albums, you will be perfectly fine with the current Nucleus+. I would rather spend the money on a quality linear PSU or a good end point like SOtM sMS-200Ultra Neo (if you are using USB connection to your DAC) than on extra CPU power you may never need/use.

Sorry but I don’t see this as being an attractive bit of kit at all and certainly not worth the hilarious asking price. Black monolithic with some token natural accents ala Cambridge Audio Evo range, hardly the design of the year.

After reading all the positive thoughts here, I am really interested in that server.
I have an original Nucleus plus for my second core, and it is already running since many years without problems. A truly fantastic product.
I hope the new Nucleus can replace my Windows based server. Looking forward to the specs.
