New (Pi 4 only) beta round: 64-bit

Hi,

I’ve just pushed a new beta build out for Pi 4’s.

This beta is about 1 thing only: switching from a 32-bit environment to a 64-bit one.

Although switching to 64-bit does not bring us anything with respect to functionality, I think now is the time because in general more and more parties in the ecosystem are making this switch.

I’ve been waiting with this for quite some time (again, it does not bring us ‘real’ benefit) to make sure that it does not interfere with RoPieee’s ‘first rule’: stability above everything else.

Anyways, would be great if some of you are willing to run this for some time in their daily Roon adventures to make sure it is going to be seamless.

What should you notice? Absolutely nothing

So let me know if you made the jump. Even if it ‘just works’ a ping would be great.

Thanks

This one?

Edit: No. This is only version and update channel. How to get the new beta?

Edit2: Now on 496. Seems working as usual. Perfect work.

Hi Harry, can not see it in the beta chanel. Is a reflash necessary?

No reflash needed. Give it some time.

Update was smooth, as always
thanks Miroslav, Harry

Still waiting for the update at my place in the Colombian forests…

5 hours later: Still waiting for the update notification…

@spockfish Why not have a “Check for updates” button in Advanced tab, besides automatic checking.

I switched to beta channel, the update notification came, I updated, and I am now on 2022.06.4 (497). So far all smooth and good after about 30 mins. FWIW I am using XL and playing out of HQP NAA output into SRC-DX and Chord Qutest at max sample rate 705/768. Will report any problems but I doubt there will be any!

It’s now over 15 hours since I switched my RoPieee to the Beta channel, and still no update notice. So I checked on the router and found that RoPieee is downloading at a variable speed of between 3-18 kB/s… No wonder there’s no update notice… I haven’t seen this kind of download speed since the old days with dialup Internet connection…

Recent regular updates also weren’t available until the day after being announced by Harry… So, what could be the reason for this? I suppose the updates are distributed over some kind of CDN, but from wherever it is downloading, here in South America it’s an exercise of patience (as nearly everything here, so I am half used to it)…

Hope that tomorrow morning I can update.

Edit: Updated 30 min ago. All is well. Once the update (build 496) was downloaded, it applied seamlessly and works just as before. Well done @spockfish!

I wish they were

RoPieee’s relative succes has a downside: the infrastructure has a hard time in serving all those endpoints. I tested with a CDN, but it’s just too expensive for a hobby project.

Armed with patience it works just fine. Thank you for your valuable effort!

Switched my XL pi4 to beta, which then updated to (0497) without a problem. All good so far.

So far, after updating to 0497 resulted in nothing worth my attention other than music.

I am loving the update. I know digital is supposed to all sound the same but I swear it sounds better on my PI2AES with RPi 4 8GB. Perhaps it’s the PI2AES driver that’s there now. I am very happy

After a weekend with no issues with RoPieee 2022.06.4 (0496) I can say perfect!! Great sound
