- Isn’t the new ROM version supposed to be released today? How do I install it? Or hasn’t it been released yet?
I don’t think it’s been released yet.
When it is, it will, for compatible systems, just be a normal update.
It’s currently 6:27 AM in New York City - I don’t think the heads of Roon Labs have had breakfast yet.
Tardy Slackers!
You’d think they’d set their alarms earlier on such an important day.
A new EA build dropped today, so I assume a general public release may be a day or 2 away yet at the least.
It looks like it’s been pushed back a week
nugs 2.0
I apologize for my skepticism, but with so many issues with Roon, I don’t believe it was Docker problems that held up the update. Observing Roon’s approach, I dare say that troubleshooting amounts to “putting out fires.” Personally, I don’t see major developmental differences when comparing Roon from years ago to today, but I do see and experience an increasing number of issues that the engineers can’t handle. For example, Qobuz and ARC. More and more often, I get the impression that Roon has turned our money into a testing ground, because something is always not working. Generally, the idea behind Roon was great, but its execution is very, very poor. Imagine a situation where you buy a car and it starts turning in only one direction, and you’re told they’re working on a solution; once they fix that, the hood starts popping open on its own, and you hear the same thing. Literally every new feature in Roon generates new problems. That’s how I see it, and that’s what I’m experiencing.

There’s no need to apologise, you have an opinion and it is as valid as anyone else’s.
Personally I have had a diametrically different journey, my experience has been a steep learning curve followed by a sizeable investment in new equipment and then sonic nirvana.
I am definitely enjoying Roon very much. But it is definitely more like an expensive sports car that is often in the shop than a Chevy that runs all the time.
I have recently had a Chevy 3500 HD dualcab and a Jaguar XK120 and Roon for me was much more like the Jaguar.
I replaced the engine in the Chevy, I drove the Jag!
I wish I had an expensive sports car that worked every day when driven every day for 5 years.
I kind of did. BMW didn’t need much work for about 5 years. Then wham! $4000 engine rebuild based on leaky $5 oil gaskets in the middle of the engine. You gotta love a car to do that kind of thing. I told the mechanic to replace every part that looked like it could ever go bad.
Off topic but other than the classic M-Series, a BMW is not really a high-powered sports car. Though maybe that’s a better automotive comparison for Roon anyway.
Unfortunately I agree 100%. I’m a lifetimer for years, so no need for me to rethink if I would pay for Roon. I just hope that one day a competitor will emerge that prioritizes stability and what is most important to many of us: that we can press play and listen to our music. Isn’t that what it’s all about? And a support that doesn’t try to make the issues as invisible as possible and doesn’t auto-reply that your network is the problem and then quietly disappear (after they have concluded that the fault lies with Qobuz). I know many Roon users will strongly disagree, but….
… my guess is that Roon is struggling with a declining number of paying customers. Perhaps they should split in two products: Roon Basic (prioritizing stability) and Roon Plus (that have all the bells and whistles).
(Off topic: Why can I not choose category anymore, if I compose a new topic?)
Oooh, I guess THIS is why we have been seeing such a flood of posts landing in Uncategorized ![]()
Works in Safari too
Ahh, thats probably the reason. I use Brave (I have tried to turn off Shields but still the same).
Next time I’ll try to log into Roon using Safari.
Thanks.
Same in Firefox. No category!
