I’m not sure Roon is the answer to my challenges. For me, it seems like it may be an added level of complexity that is unnecessary since I don’t have a large library of music of any quality better than CD, and the offline non-access seems absurd.
I’m essentially using it to control Tidal with a better interface.
Sorry for the disconnected answers everyone… just getting the hang of the quoting and replying features.
You guys have given me some awesome info…. And I’m better equipped to tackle the problem, which appears to be a combination of the Marantz HEOS not accepting/using a hi-res Tidal stream, the Roon not accepting a hi-res Tidal stream and the Marantz and Roon not working together for anything above AirPlay quality connection either.
It’s looking like a Roon-Ready endpoint would solve many of my problems from the hardware perspective, (like another WiiM Pro or something), but not solve the Tidal/Roon problem, or allow me to stream Amazon from Roon either.
So far, the two features of Roon I can actually use are the parametric eq and crossfeed, but I don’t know how to configure either!!!
If someone can check out the signal chain from Ged Hickman way up there and let me know how he did it… it would be great.
I see. Nice! I’m trying myself to find some solution to fit both a TT and my center speaker in a limited space…
I’m using a NUC in an Akasa case as a Roon streamer. USB to DAC and stereo amp for 2CH and HDMI to Denon AVR for MCH.
When it comes to Tidal hi-res. I have two Roon Ready endpoints. A Cambridge Audio CXNv2 and a Bluesound Node X.
The Node can now play both MQA and hi-res FLAC using Tidal Connect. The Cambridge doesn’t support MQA and isn’t hi-res FLAC capable yet with Tidal.
Amazon isn’t supported by Roon. No endpoint is going to change that. If you are looking for a device that is capable playing nearly all streaming services using its own app then you should look for either a WiiM or a BluOS capable device like a Bluesound or a NAD.
Yeah… the hyperlink didn’t stand out very well for me on the article. Reading on the phone didn’t help either.
Really wish all the icons had “tool tips” if you hover over them.
The learning curve sucks. It seems like you kind of have to understand many of the nuances and verbiage of streaming protocols, file types, effect chain management, source vagaries and even “certification” politics before you start in order to use it.
Seems like a powerful tool, but a little too “slick” to be new user friendly.
Well it sounds to me like you’re better off without Roon. No Amazon support. And when Tidal finally gets hi-res functionality in Roon that’s everyone’s guess at this point.
I’ve had a Wiim Mini in the past. Nice little device. I gave it to my parents who are happily using it as an Internet radio streamer in their cabin. I liked the WiiM Home app quite a bit. It works pretty similar to my Bluesound Node X’s BluOS app. Both WiiM and BluOS pretty much support everything out there. Including Amazon and Tidal hi-res FLAC.
