Hi Michael,
thank you for your fast response. But I’m on 2.31.7. more than one year old.
Hi Michael,
thank you for your fast response. But I’m on 2.31.7. more than one year old.
oK Daniel thanks for confirming that.
When you got to the page http://ifi.local/dev and press the button to enable the beta updates.
Go back to http://ifi.local and go back and check updates right away and it should offer you the latest beta update.
Let me know if it doesn’t do that
Yes Michael. This is the way I do it. But my ZS doesn’t do that.
That suggests it is not seeing the latest firmware.
Have you checked the DNS SETTINGS on the network tab just to see if there is an issue. Maybe try updating to Google DNS at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Beyond that I would look at a Factory reset and try again.
They have pulled beta firmware in the past but I installed mine about a month ago with no issue.
Hello Michael,
again thanks. I did the DNS settings on the network tab. But it changes nothing. Another try with these DNS settings at the router itself. Nothing.
I tried the factory setting before I wrote her.
Daniel that might suggest that they pulled the latest firmware from automatic updates.
Have you been on the iFi forums to check?
This has happened previously and they didn’t replace it with anything until the replacement update was available
I purchased the Zen Stream back before my Hegel H390 was Roon Ready. Once updated, I have been using it with my backup software (JRMC) via the USB connection. It worked perfectly until I was forced to upgrade my router to fiber a few weeks ago. For some reason it would no longer stay connected to the new router. After untold attempts to resolve this issue, the unit is now bricked and will not respond to anything including the power button. That is when I contacted the ifi help desk and they sent this response to me this morning. That’s all well and good, but there are no instructions provided for me to even attempt this process. I have reached out to them, but thought someone here might be of help as well?
Hi Gary and thanks for sharing this as I am sure it will be useful. Someone else recently bricked their Zen Stream as well and was unable to recover.
Maybe you can copy the links and post them here so one of us.can have a look.
I think that you need a memory stick to try this process, but I will have a look when I get a chance as my Stream is not actually in use at the moment.
Mine has not updated for quite a while, it’s working fine. Any reason for concern? Any improvements have been made?
@Michael_Harris , your comments about making bricks has kept me gun shy
That is the latest official release.
I installed a Beta release that had some issues but all was good enough after a few updates.
We thought recently that Zen might have pulled the latest release after a user could not get any updates.
I am guessing nothing to be worried about unless you’re Zen is bricked.
The way I look at it is that it would be a good thing if a couple of us kept these files for safety reasons, just in case the worst happened.
There wasn’t an issue for the longest time but may be one has been introduced.
Gary I will try and get my Stream out and make some sense of these in the next couple of days.
But thanks for sharing them, it will hopefully help someone else
All of this demonstrates the great need for the forthcoming iFi self crafted OS. The current Volumio implementation is inadequate.
I think that this is probably true
Hi Gary Did they send you no instructions with this at all?
That is pretty poor.
I have just downloaded them and will look for some instructions and see if I can do anything with the files
One of them looks to be a full update image and that looks to be the thing. I just used 7zip to open it and it looks like it is to be be burned as an image.
Another looks to be a Linux recovery tool so I will see if I can reset my own device back a non beta version
Any instructions they sent you might be useful
I received these instructions in the zipped file from iFi. Took a few attempts but I unbricked my Stream by following them.
Thanks Stephen that is really helpful for others
There have been a couple of people who have bricked theirs and between the downloads and instructions this should help.
You’re welcome!
Yes, they did. It was in the support ticket and not part of the email. I followed the instructions and they worked to unbrick the unit. I have not had the courage to attempt connection yet!
It looks straightforward enough, so good luck with that.
I might try it on my working but stuck in beta version over the weekend if I get a chance
