As mentioned in another thread there is a new stable build today 2.32.9 and it looks like it fixes Roon Only issues that were in previous beta firmware.
The update went well and was fairly quick to install and reboot.

V2.32.9 is well for me. It seem improve CPU performance, I can feel this one reduce heat problems, and PWR noise. I try it 2-3 days, better than past version.
That is good news.
It has been working perfectly for me upscaling to DSD to my ZEN Dac and outputting to headphones.
I forgot to say in my previous post, but it did set the default output back to SPDIF but a couple of clicks and that was back on USB again.
May I know couple of clicks with which bottom?
On the Web page and changing the output from SPDIF to USB
Easiest way is to click on the Device Info text which opens a web page where you can change it as below.
Thanks your kindly share.
Guys, anyone experiencing Wifi issues after the latest update? I use Ethernet hence turned Wifi off in network settings, but after some time Zen Stream automatically turns Wifi slider back to ON⦠Maybe itās just my imagination , but with Wifi ON sound is slightly degradedā¦Could someone please check if you experience the same behavior? I have already raised a ticket with Ifi supportā¦thanks a lot!
Sorry I only run mine over Ethernet, though I did feel previously with testing WiFi it just wasnāt as good sounding or as reliable
Thanks Michael, same for me, only ethernet use with wifi set to OFFā¦but with latest firmware update wifi is turning automatically ON in setting, even though I have manually switched it OFFā¦and I have a feeling that the wifi connection is overriding ethernet (not sure if this is possible), but the response time in app is slower and sound is differentā¦strange
Hi Pavol I am away from home this week, but I am pretty sure I turned the WiFi off.
I will have a look and do some testing when I get back home.
Up to now it is in my study doing duty for Roon and HQPlayer and I am upscaling to DSD256 and have had no issues at all, which I am pretty sure I would have on WiFi. Maybe a reset of the settings is required.
Hi Michael, just to follow up on wifi issue, IFI support confirmed the bug, should be fixed in next update⦠hopefully soon
Great thread. I have been running a Zen Stream for about a month now. Latest firmware. I use Roon with a Mac Mini Server. Everything has been running over Wi-Fi with no issues. I run in Roon only mode and everything has been stable.
After about 3 weeks of use I upgraded the power supply to a 12v iPowerX and immediately noticed an improvement in top end clarity and treble space.
The big revaluation for me is the synergy with the the Zen DAC v2. I was initially running the ZS through an Aune X1S via USB, an old but solid DAC, into my Kinki Studio EM-X1+. All was good. My primary streamer is a CA CXNV2. To my ear the ZS/X1S pairing was very close to the CXNV2. Just lacking a bit in soundstage.
Since I was in testing/experimenting mode I grabbed the Zen DAC v2 of my desk and gave it a go with the ZS and was pleasantly surprised with the results. The Zen DAC v2 has a warmer character than my other DACs and pairs really well with the transparent detailed nature of the EX-M1+. The iFi stack has been in my main system for over a week now and itās going to stay there.
Anyone interested in a CXNV2?
You could even further improve performance by using an ifi iPower Elite
Hi Errol and welcome to this old thread
I have used my Stream with an original ZenDac for a couple of year and with the iFi power X 15v supply with excellent results.
I did use Roon Only mode for some time, but I also like HQPlayer so just disable all the other services that I am not using. That is a nice feature, though Roon Only mode and HQPlayer only mode are great for the dedicated user of either.
Iām also using the ZS (with Ipower X 12v) with the Zen dac V2 (with Ipower X 5v) as a headphone system (with H600) and really like it. It works flawlessly with Roon via ethernet and sounds pleasant and detailed enough for me.
I havenāt noticed any difference in sound when powering the Zen DAC v2 via 5V or USB.
Maybe Iāll try it again another day. My my 5v iPowerX is currently on the Zen CAN.
You will hear a difference with the iPowerX and even more with the iPower Elite.
I read this on an Audiogon Aurender forum:
āI replaced an Aurender N10 with a Roon Nucleus with an IFi Zen Stream endpoint at a lower price point and am experiencing better sound quality, excellent stability/reliability and a better user interface. YMMV.ā
Do I understand correctly that in that setup, the Nucleus is connected to the network and then utilizes the Zen Stream as that last step (end point) before connecting to my DAC?
I had never thought of using a Roon endpoint with a Nucleus and am intrigue with the possibility. Already have the ZS + Farad Super 3 so Iām halfway there.
Also wonder if with the Samsung acquisition we might see several new Nucleus like products that only such a behemoth can produce?
That is the normal practice I would think.
Roon Server->Network ā Roon Endpoint [->DAC]
The Nucleus itself should have no more impact on SQ than a NUC running Rock (or an M2 based Mac) or am I missing something in your question/statement and are looking more to the future potential of the Harman acquisition
Iām of the mind that there is potential for a product dedicated to one task could sound better than a Mac (or PC), both as a streamer or a server. And once a NUC is fully built to a comparable level, itās only a bit less expensive than a Nucleus.
Yes, Iām also speculating about Samsungās presence. One can imagine that the hardware resources of Samsung/ Harman could potentially open new doors for Roon Core hardware. Roon Ready products are common, but Roon Core devices are relatively rare in the audiophile hardware manufacture market place. Not many have tackled the Roon Core task.
The Nucleus is a decent effort by a tiny company who is now part of a massive company. Curious what that brings to the hardware table. Harman is a hardware giant.
