i am trying to play Tidal through Roon tonight. Roon shows my DAC is engaged but no sound from the speakers. no sample rate displayed on the DAC which probably means no SPDIF from the ZS to the DAC? Roon seems to have issues with the IFI, too bad it sounds so good compared to streaming through the Tidal app. maybe i should switch to the exclusive Roon mode from the AIO mode on the IFI. forget about Spotify? there is a work around i have been using. 1. open Spotify 2. select IFI ZS 3. play track in Spotify 4. close Spotify 5. open Roon and select IFI ZS 6. now if i play the track in Roon sound comes out of speakers. can of a hassle.Roon and IFI are strange bedfellows. any ideas? on top of that i looked into my receipt from Roon and found out that double billed me for 4 months.
Bummer. Which NAD DAC are you using? I tried the D 3045, and I found that I sometimes had to cycle the inputs while music was playing through my Allo DigiOne Player to get it to lock on an S/PDIF signal. Once locked, it was good. Hoping that works with your ZEN Stream while in mode 2.
If the NAD has a USB input, you could try that as well to see if the behavior is different.
I canāt help with your billing issue, but Iād suggest emailing Roon support directly.
i have a NAD D1050, i did cycle the inputs on it, opt, usb, coax. still no go, no sample rate displayed on the coax input from the ZS. no sound. coax 2 hooked up to dig. out on OPPO player no problem. i have been using the All In One input on the ZS. i will try it. maybe i will have to buy a USB cable? it will have to be USB 2 on one end for the NAD and USB 3.0 on the other end for the ZS. do you think i will have to buy another DAC that will play well with the ZS?
Hmmmā¦what are you using for a digital cable to connect the S/PDIF output? Any old RCA cable will not work reliably. It needs to be a 75Ī© digital cable like this:
BJC Coaxial Digital Audio Cable,⦠https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00287BNKE?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Supra Trico coax cable. itās about $100 1m. the coax in Roon mode 2 worked for a bit with the sample rate showing. now Roon shows track playing and NAD DAC displayed but no sample rate displayed nor sound from DAC?
I test both the node2 and zen stream into the same dac and I couldnāt hear really any diffrence, maybe the zen had a bit more air,the dac in the node is crap, full of noise but the node spidf to ex dac is really good, not as clean as the zen but itās low enough that you wonāt hear it,not sure yet if Iām going to keep the zen or send it bck and go for the allo digione siq and shanti psu
your lucky TREO would not refund me. i am stuck with this here in Thailand. no Ebay, and Thaiās will not pay for SQ, they buy crap. but they do have very good Dr.'s here so i am out $700 and will have to pursue a solution. i can get a sweet deal on the Lumin if i can unload this. but it does sound great when it works.
I canāt connect the ZS to the Roon. I have the latest Roon version and the latest ifi firmware. In the Roon settings part, I have the Ifi option (ifi + ip address + Linux 4.4.167+), but there is no āEnableā button next to it. Has anyone had a similar problem. (Ifi is set to Roon exclusive mode).
Zeljko try putting it in All In One mode as I seem to remember early on there was confusion from iFi over what mode was what, and I think it is referenced in the early posts. Some devices went out with the wrong settings shown on the getting started guide.
Never had a problem with mine in AIO mode and heard no improvement in Roon only mode.
Got to be worth a go.

Hello,
when I put ifi in AIO mode, there is Ifi(shairportSync) option and option I note in previous message which I canāt enable.
I found an unnamed option (alsa) in roon settings and it looks like itās ifi Roon. Because when I named it and chose it as Roon output everything works ok.
Cool and glad to hear that.
Its the first time this has come up in a while.
I got myself a Zen Stream last week. I had an initial issue of not being able to update the firmware. It was on 2.25 from March 2021, and progress bar got stuck on 50%. So I went back to the dealer (an advantage of buying from a local brick and mortar store) and a guy there did help me with the update. When he did it, progress bar got stuck on 95% lol, but when we rebooted the ZS, it showed firmware to be 2.29.9 and all was well.
After the firmware update issue, everything is working flawlessly and it sounds really good. I use it mostly in AIO mode but have run it in roon exclusive mode too and it works fine.
I did some A/B testing with my RPi 3 with the HifiBerry Digi+ HAT. Both sound very good to me, but Iāll give the nod to the ZS. There is some extra dynamics and wider soundstage with the ZS. I use the ZS with the iFi Audio iPower X, 15V version, and the RPi 3 with the original switched PS.
So far I am very pleased with my purchase.
There were quite a few issues updating the early firmware but glad to hear that you got it sorted
all i can say is that the Zen Stream has ruined my Roon experience. it will crash even after i selected the Roon mode on the Zen Stream. more specifically the Roon app. shows that the track is still playing (purple light) but no sound. i can see that my DAC is still in the signal chain, but eventually that is gone and i get an message āplease select an audio sourceā go back into settings and my DAC is no where to be seen to be selected and start the cycle over again. meanwhile all the lights on the ZS are still on. i took the ZS down to the local NAD dealer to see if it would function there. no way. but the Bluesound 2i worked flawlessly with my NAD DAC. i also had the dealer check all the coax inputs on the NAD. i have done everything Roon has suggested.
i will run down and get a Supra USB cable today. thanks for reminding me. worth a shot for $60, i really want to love this thing. or a Denafrips? would a USB SQ be as good as the Coax? maybe the ZS would partner better with the NAD over USB?
as reported earlier i could not a digital signal from Zen Stream to the DAC even though in Roon showed that everything was working in the chain. track playing, Zen engaged, DAC engaged. what a mystery. all suggestion from the forums did not work but today i stumbled on something. i went into the ifi setup menu and in settings found something called āconfiguration wizardā i opened it and selected SPDIF and ran it. now my DAC is receiving the stream from the Zen and the sample rate is showing on the respective coax display and music is playing. and everything is beautiful wow,
wish i had discovered this weeks ago. hopefully problem solved.
Rudy I think someone else had a similar problem to that, but it should not impact Roon as there are separate endpoints for each device.
I wonder if it is being left engaged after using a different service or protocol. As we keep saying there are so many bugs in the firmware and each release seems to bring more of them.
They are releasing to many products at the moment and there seem to be little problems with all of them.
Good to see you fixed your problem and hopefully somebody else will get the benefit of you posting it as well
yes, life is for learning and never give up
well it was short lived, ZS crashed. back to square one and can not get back into the ifi.local page to run the configuration wizard again. trying to get things going from the Mconnect App. got playback to show in the Mconnect app. via Tidal. but when playback starts no coax input lights up on DAC from the ZS. so no signal to the DAC is being detected and thus no analog into the amp. no music. but i was able to select āplay to ifi Zen Streamā in the Mconnect app.
