Newly set up Roon ROCK doesn't seem to be indexing InternalStorage

I’ve got a newly set up Roon ROCK on an intel nuc, trying to migrate from my Mac Pro to the ROCK. I was able to restore the backup from the mac to the ROCK but I seem to be having a problem getting the music copied over to local storage.

The ROCK (an Intel NUC 13 Pro NUC13ANHi5 Arena Canyon) has a 500GB NVME boot drive for the DB & OS and a 2TB internal SSD, which I have enabled as internal storage:

I’ve got the ROCK SMB-mounted on my Mac, copying songs to a directory that I made underneath InternalStorage (/Volumes/Data/Storage/InternalStorage/iTunes/)

Thus far I’ve copied about 2,000 songs from my Mac but not seeing any of the newly-copied songs in the library, although they do show up on the SMB share:

I’ve tried the “force rescan” under the Internal Storage (which returns immediately) but they’re still not showing in the library.

I want to make sure that I’m copying things to the right place- when I added files when I was using the mac they showed up pretty much instantaneously. The “internal music storage” does seem to be getting consumed. Since starting this it’s now showing only 97% free, so the data is there, but Home only shows the stuff from Tidal

Thanks,

Are these folders on the Rock internal storage?

These shouldn’t exist. The entire internal storage with all the folders on it is automatically available via the “Roon Optimized Core Kit Internal Storage” entry in this screenshot. You don’t add additional folders from the storage disc.

I mean, they are disabled in your screenshot, so maybe they don’t hurt, but they won’t help either, and perhaps they do interfere anyway.

to add a wrinkle: I started also copying over some of the hi-res tracks (mostly FLAC) and those started showing up right away…

When it was on my Mac I had two storage folders configured:

  • One for my hi-res music (/Volumes/Media/Hi-Res Music)
  • One for my iTunes library (/Volumes/Media/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music)

Does Roon do anything special when indexing a folder under and iTunes library?

Those are both disabled (the red outline is hiding it for the second one), and deleting them didn’t seem to change anything

The iTunes files may be in a format that Roon doesn’t support / can’t read. See also:

Please use this guide to troubleshoot your issue if you still think the files should be supported by Roon and rerport your findngs please:

I changed the folder hierarchy and took the word iTunes out of the path so now it’s just going to Storage/InternalStorage/Music and it seems a bit happier, but it’s not seeming to be getting all of the album artwork (I’d have thought it would be in the DB?)

I’ll let the copy finish and reboot before I try anything else

There is an ongoing Google Cloud issue that also affects Roon’s cloud servers/services hosted there. So missing metadata, including pictures, might be a thing until the GCP issue is resolved.

ahh, that could also be why I can’t re-identify albums. Thanks!
