Description of Issue

After idle period Roon does load albums etc, but it can’t find my audio devices, but says “no audio devices found” The audio tab in settings is blank. As soon as I start remote screen sharing the headless Mac mini, the audio devices are back. Please help!

Hi, I’m on a m1 Mac mini, updated to Ventura 6 hours ago, also using the Mac mini only from my iMac with screen sharing. For me it looks like a sharing problem, on OS X. It happed to me, same and others. A Mac mini restart worked sometimes. Other times just had to revisit all the system setting on the Mac mini.

If you need I can give you screenshots with my settings

Thank you so much for your reply. When you have time I would appreciate a screenshot or two. Are you using any 3rd party software (amphetamine) to keep the mini awake?

No, I do not know all the settings for keeping awake, usually roon plays music 24/7. Mac mini is only running OS X and roon, I do not use it for something else. So all the things are off, wifi, Bluetooth, Spotlight, Notifications, etc

The only thing that I did today, I noticed the new system prefs in Ventura, and did allow roon full disk acces. I’ll close my roon now for ten min to see what is going to happen. Just tell me specific if you want me to look for other settings. Also: I run roon server on Mac mini and the full ap on iMac

30 minutes, with no roon remote opened and Mac mini did not go to sleep. Opened roon on iMac, got the waiting for core screen for about 1 second and then it was on. All the endpoints in the settings audio.

Does this happen after an update? maybe a reinstall of roon would help

Thanks a lot for this. Let me know what happens overnight. Normally during the day i dont have a problem. You have allowed access to roonRaat. Is this a separate software ?

I’m Not sure about roonRaat. My history: I installed the full app on the Mac mini for the core… but sometimes it was moving very slow when hitting play (without any convolution or upsampling). So I deleted the app, renamed the roon folder into roonserver and put the server app in the applications folder. I’m not 100% confident in my tech skills

For me overnight roon is running to a single endpoint using LAN.

Searching Ventura sistem setting I found another option:

Thanks, this setting I did not find so far, so I will give it a try. If you keep your core playing music overnight, I assume you will have no issue in the morning. Playing should keep it alive, I guess

I’ll use the sleep option in roon. I’ll see in the morning and let you know

Good Morning… All working, Roon was not playing overnight and the Mac mini did not get into sleep mode, when I wake the iMac and opened the roon remote all the outputs in the audio setting were there. I wish there would be something to help… Maybe you have to contact support

Yes, I will contact them. This morning my mini was asleep again. Glad it work out for you - thanks for you help

Oh, sorry
Maybe you have focus settings shared from other devices.

Hey @Jacob_Andersen,

You have my sincerest apologies for the delayed response here, we’ve been dealing with a higher-than-usual volume following our release and we’re working as quickly as we can to get back to everyone.

This seems to be a common problem with certain and more up-to-date Mac devices. Try this option below and let me know if it helps:

Under the Security & Privacy Settings in your Settings, click on the advanced box and deselect the “Logout After XXXMinutes…” Box.

It will require a password to regain control of the unit but Roon will stay up and Roon Remotes (and other devices) will still be able to access it. This doesn’t change your screensaver and display settings. Your Power Saver options should be set to Never Sleep.

Let me know if you still run into your Mac falling asleep after trying the above :+1:
