Every time I accept an update, I lose all my non-server connected audio zones on my Mac mini 2018: my iPad, my Office Bridge, my Sonos stream. If I delete my Roon app and reinstall, they come back. Unnecessary PITA. I thought someone (Roon? Apple?) were working on a fix. Is there movement? Or do I simply “dismiss” all new Roon updates going forward?
Mike,
Please don’t read this as “I’m OK - so you ‘should’ be OK” ( ). But that doesn’t happen for me; maybe others with similar setups to yours will report it. I’d suggest trying to eliminate something else in your configuration that could be causing it. Good luck!
Can’t imagine what it could be, but I will check. Thanks
!
I don’t have a MAC, but have you tried rebooting the server device and the endpoints after the updates?
Also, have you looked in settings audio? Are they missing from there or are they just disabled?
Which MacOS version are you running? With MacOS Sequoia up to 15.2 there were the issues you’ve described. But with the latest version they should be fixed.
Sequoia 15.3.1 it says.
Yep, I have rebooted, but the zones are just missing from my setup. Gone.
Mike,
This thread contains the specifics of what @SandsOfArrakis is referring to.
For most people it was solved in 15.3 (and so also 15.3.1). But not for everyone. Worth a try?
@David_Moore2 came up with a solution that worked for me (thanks David).
‘The issue with Sequoia allowing access to local network devices by third party applications is typically caused by a reboot.
You need to go to settings/privacy&security/local network and toggle the Roon entries off then back on. Then quit Roon server by clicking on the menu bar item and choose quit, then once Roon server has closed, reopen the Roon app. This forces Roon to rescan the network for devices. Your devices should then reappear (do for me every time)
Do not reboot your Mac after toggling Roon off and on in local network as the issue most commonly occurs after a reboot so the toggle is voided.
This does not occur for Apple Music as it is an Apple application and as such does not require local network device access permission as it is trusted. This setting only applies to third party applications. I assume you are using Tidal via Safari (web player) which will also bypass the Sequoia permissions as an inbuilt application or if you use the app the playback chain is passing through browser functionality as I notice the tidal app requires a browser to function (but I don’t use Tidal so could be wrong on this)’
Thanks for the input. At the end of the day, the dismiss button may be the surest answer.
Last night, all was well. I delighted in my Saturday night playlist and turned off the 65” Sony I use as a monitor from HDMI out. Smiles.
This morning, all my non server endpoints are gone, again. I think “gone” now applies to the 2018 Mac mini as well.
Going shopping.
Check my thread out, maybe there is useful information for you.
Hi, any luck with your issue?
I might suggest you escalate your issue to a Support call.
This is clearly not the desired outcome of an Update, with over 300k users , your issue seems odd, and requires investigation
Needless to say, I have taken every update in my 9 yrs with Roon with no issues as no doubt many of the 300k . So (to me) it points to your system not the software and hence needs investigation by experts
I am pretty well convinced the problem is in my hardware. My 2018 Mac mini is failing in a couple of minor areas. But this one is a dealbreaker. In system settings, privacy and security, my Roon and Roon server are toggled on. Toggling off, then back on, restores my zones, but only temporarily. I can’t get this device in “never sleep” mode, so when it sleeps, my zones disappear. Roon updates also make my zones disappear. So I retoggle. The circle continues. I have a 2012 I will try this week. If that one works Ok, it may be time for a new M4.
Thanks guys.
Not an Apple user so not much use
Many users are Apple users , on all sorts of Apple gear, are so the more info you can provide the better, to get some use help.
Create a Support section post and provide details it may help
Which macOS version are you running? This was a common issue with Sequoia from 15.0 to 15.2, but for most users it seems to have been fixed with 15.3. I.e., it may still have been necessary to toggle the settings once more after updating to 15.3, but it seems that in most cases it then stuck as it should.
15.3.1 since it was offered. No stick.
I bought this 2018 as “renewed” from Amazon. With some minor glitches, I got three years of service out of it. But a new one is in order, I think.
You could try reinstalling macOS from scratch. It doesn’t sound like a hardware issue to me
