· ROON ROCK on AsusNuc13: No output from USB2 to RME Fireface UCX

The Fireface is known by ROON as an ALSA device but I get no output to it. It´s a complete new installation on the NUC13

· I use a Telekom router, the NUC is connected via a standard switch and LAN Ethernet wiring. Nothing special

Hi @Bernd_Golias,

It sounds like this Fireface UCX is not in class-compliant USB mode; logs corroborate this, showing an abort received by Roon after it has already initialized the audio stream.

Here are RME’s instructions for putting this device into class-compliant mode so it won’t require proprietary drivers and can rely on native ALSA:

Connect the UCX to power and switch it on. Turn the encoder knob in Channel mode until SU appears in the display. Press the knob once to activate Level mode. Turn the knob until CC is shown in the display, then press and hold the encoder until the display shows on (pressing the knob again will make the display show oF, indicating CC mode is inactive). The unit will reboot, all LEDs will light up, after which it will be in Class Compliant mode.

Hi Connor, thanks for your fast feedback.

That´s not the issue, I´ve already set the Fireface to class compliant mode before I asked for help…

Thanks @Bernd_Golias.

Logs show an enumeration conflict with the RME; it’s being held up by another process when RAATServer requests it:

06/23 12:57:01 Error: error in snd_pcm_open: Device or resource busy (-16)

Can you share a screenshot of the Device Setup page for this Zone? Is Exclusive Mode visible and enabled? Please share a screenshot of the Signal Path, too.

There shouldn’t be any ghost processes holding up the audio pipeline on a clean RoonOS install. If you haven’t already, see if this persists after unplugging the RME and power cycling the NUC. You can also try rebooting the server from the webUI.

Either way, we’ll gather logs afterwards and take a closer look.

Do you have any other USB DACs or audio interfaces you can try with this ROCK to test if those also trigger ALSA enumeration conflicts on this ROCK?

Hey, @Bernd_Golias.

Just checking in on this. Were you able to send over a screenshot of the Device Setup page for that zone, along with the Signal Path, and confirm whether Exclusive Mode is visible and enabled? If you had a chance to try unplugging the RME, power cycling the NUC, or rebooting the server from the RoonOS WebUI, let us know what changed, and please tell us whether any other USB DACs or audio interfaces on this ROCK show the same ALSA enumeration conflict. Thanks, and we can take another look once we have those details.
