Description Of Issue
I cannot get my Roon Nucleus to power up – everything is connected but it will not power up. I am even using ethernet cable that was previously working just fine to hardwire an Apple TV.
I have used the power button. The manual also says the ethernet cable connection should light up green on the router switch but it does not weirdly even when it does when the same cable is used for other components (Apple TV). Maybe my power cable is faulty…? Thanks for the advice. I’m super bummed cause it just arrived and I wanna dig into it of course.
. asked about the power button as many have missed it before and had similar issues to you. But if you have used it and no power and you’ve got no ethernet lights then yep sounds like something is off. Perhaps make sure everything is connected properly . If it is and no joy call your dealer.
Found an old comparable power cord… Now I’m getting the green ethernet light and the power button light flashes for a second. Should that be staying on?
I would only use the stock Nucleus power supply, some 3rd party power supplies (even high-end ones) can cause issues with the Nucleus, and using these will types of power supplies are not covered by the warranty.
My suspicion here is that the original power supply may not have been working properly, and I would reach out to your dealer to clarify this further as @Simon_Arnold3 noted.
Also to note, when you do have connection to the Nucleus, I would make sure to update the firmware on it via the Web UI as the first step prior to usage. This setup info and more can be found in our Nucleus Manual (<- all the blue links are click-able) .
Hi Noris. Your point is well taken. I was just tying to trouble shoot by the process of elimination. I bought the Nucelus + from Roon via Amazon. My only real option was to return it since there was no way to get it to power up. Would I really need to update the firmware if it is brand new from Roon?
Yes factory image is not always the latest version as the firmwaw/os can change several times in a product run, and you should always keep Nucleus on latest version. But can’t see that effecting anything to do with powering it on though as you can’t power it on to update it.
If you bought via Amazon then Roon need to support you, although it seems you one that’s DOA. So ship it back and get a replacement.
@Chris_Laughlin, you can return to Amazon … or we can send you a Fedex label and you can send it to us. We can turn it around fast. I’ll also make sure to give it latest firmware and run it through another round of post-factory QA tests.
Your choice… neither will cost you anything.
Sending it to us saves us some hassle with Amazon, and we’d give your machine a bit of extra love for your trouble.
Let me know, and I’ll have that label to you today.
@Simon_Arnold3 is right. Whenever you buy any product today, assume it has been sitting on a shelf somewhere for ages. The speed at which software moves cannot compare with hardware.
Sorry to butt in, but following on from what Noris posted above and for the avoidance of any doubt, are Roon advising against the use of any high-quality third-party linear power supplies?
We are advising that third party power supplies blow up electronics way more often than you’d expect. We have so many issues with this. People try to get a cheap bargain PS, and boom!
