Describe the issue
On my iMac, impossible to play music on my session either on the imac speakers or in bluetooth. it works in wifi, it works with my iPhone, with the other sessions of the iMac but not mine. the Roon server is on the iMac. The music plays on Roon when I click play but no sound comes out. No error message.
Thank you for the detailed description — this helps clarify what’s happening.
Even when you play to a locally connected output (iMac speakers, headphones, or Bluetooth), Roon does not bypass the network.
Roon’s audio engine (RAATServer) still relies on local network discovery and loopback networking to establish and maintain the audio stream between RoonServer and the audio device.
From the diagnostics we’ve reviewed on your iMac, we’re seeing repeated network-layer failures at the exact moments when playback produces no sound:
01/01 09:28:39 Error: [discovery] error sending response: host is unreachable
This means that macOS is rejecting or blocking RAATServer’s network responses, even though the audio device is local. As a result, Roon believes playback is active, but the audio stream never reaches the output.
Please try the following on the affected macOS user account:
1) Check Local Network permission
Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network
Make sure Roon and Roon Server are both enabled.
If they already are, toggle them off, then on again, reboot the Mac, and test playback.
2) Check for software that can block local networking
Please verify that nothing is filtering or blocking local network traffic, including:
Antivirus or security suites
VPN software
Firewall or network filtering tools (Little Snitch, LuLu, AdGuard, etc.)
Corporate or device-management profiles
If any of these are installed, temporarily disable or uninstall them, reboot, and test again. These tools frequently block loopback and multicast traffic, which RAAT requires even for local playback.
