It is a Prime Mini 4 that is a passive Intel NUC 7. It is supposed to boot with 12-19V. The PSU it came with has 12V 5A (=60W) and works fine. I use it with a Keces P8 that has 12V 4A (=48W) and 19V 4A (=76W). I can boot it up with the 12V lane without any problem, but it won’t boot properly with the 19V lane. The 19V lane is recommended to be used with the Prime Mini 4 because it improves the sound (it actually does).
I already installed the latest BIOS (actually two times now because this issue is going on for some time) and cleared the settings, but that did not fix the issue.
So I tried to change the energy settings in the NUC to see if I can fix the issue that way. It seems that going for maximum performance is what improves the sound. I also think that this fixed the issue because after my last change, it booted twice without any issue. But I am not sure, and I don’t want to take the risk.
I would ask the vendor for help, but they are out of business, and the follow-up company just sold off the last units without providing any service for old customers.
You asked for assistance, and your current PSU isn’t working for you … what I posted should resolve the issue; it wasn’t a recommendation. Take it or leave it, this is a public forum.
I did not ask for assistance regarding the PSU. I just answered a question somebody asked me about it.
I asked for assistance regarding the icon issue. But so far, I did not get any suggestion that fixed the problem, but nevertheless nobody from the support or the moderation team is willing to take into account that it could be a bug in the software. But that would be helpful.
I have re-installed the OS several times and have not had any issues crop up. But YMMV…
Also, I have never had to “restart” the NUC myself when doing the OS reinstall, but it may just do it on its own?
I re-installed it via the web interface, but it got stuck in the process (told me for 15 minutes that it is re-installing). I had to go from 19V to 12V again to be able to reboot the NUC. Then it confirmed the re-install, but I was not sure if it really went through, so I started another re-install. This one was finished after a few seconds.
It seems that the re-install restarts the OS, and that includes the boot-up procedure.
The issue is still not fixed, and now I have to meddle around to make the NUC boot with 19V again.
