Not able to import any MP3 files on Windows 8.1 pro

I am having problem importing any mp3 files. None of MP3 files import either by iTunes library or watch folder or Organize. Have about 7000 files, all rips of the CDs (files work with any other MP3 player) and none of them import into Roon. Tidal library is fine. If I disable Tidal - no albums found. Any suggestions? Thank you

Hi Eugene,

@mike will take this up on his usual rounds of the Support forum. In the meantime I have two “wild guess” thoughts:

As per this post:

https://community.roonlabs.com/t/what-audio-file-formats-does-roon-support/110?u=andybob

Mp3 support in Roon uses OS codecs. Other players can come with their own mp3 codecs. Windows 8.1 Pro N and NK versions don’t come with mp3 codecs installed. They are in a media pack that can be found here:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2929699

If your version of Windows Pro is an N or NK version then you could try installing or reinstalling the media pack.

Second thought. Try converting a file to another format and then back to mp3 using an up to date converter. See if that lets Roon see it. If so then it may be an incompatibility issue with slight variations in mp3 formats. If it works for a test file then a batch process could be in order.

Cheers !
