And here’s our first holiday playlist.
One of my all-time favorite Christmas albums was finally made available for streaming. I’ve looked for it every year and was delighted to see it finally available to all on TIDAL, Qobuz, and KKBOX.
Ray Charles - Spirit of Christmas. The version of Little Drummer Boy (included in our Soulful Season playlist) is pure slow and soulful Brother Ray filtered through a stone Christmas classic. Look out!
Next, the album that has dominated my Holiday music listening for the last dozen years. Guitar colossus John Fahey communes with these yuletide favorites like a six-string samurai with three hands. Indispensible
The foundation of my love for Soulful seasonal grooves was built on this record. Soul Christmas is loaded with music heavies ala Stax, the house that Otis built. One of the greatest southern soul numbers ever recorded is here doing double duty as a Christmas track par excellence, William Bell’s Every Day Will Be Like a Holiday !
George Michael and Wham were not what I was into during my teens and twenties but without doubt their music makes me feel nostalgic for my youth, after all you could get away from Wham or George Michael growing up through the eighties and nineties. Their music tends to seep into your soul.
Have to say I am a big fan of George Michael’s music at the moment. I remember buying Faith for my girlfriend to listen too, she really wasn’t a Fields Of The Nephilim or Sisters Of Mercy fan but the CD never got played as we parted ways very quickly. I gave the CD to my sister in the end. Recently I’ve realised it is an amazing album.
It’s November…
“All I want for Christmas is not to think about it…
Coz between Christmas and me, it’s complicated…”
If you look closely she’s wearing a Wham T-shirt @oneofmany
It’s too blooming early for Christmas songs by Bah Humbug gets a lot of play chez Sloop for the next 3 weeks.

Well, a bit early, but I couldn’t resist.
and, of course:
I’ve always loved the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas albums.
Stunning version of Veni veni Emmanuel on this iamthemorning EP was this year’s first festive musical adventure.
