Can’t believe I was a twelve year old when this was released (1963). In my world then Jazz then was for the weird intellectuals who shuffled around in the shadows.

I would say the album title is quite fitting for the material!

The great Italian pianist, tragically overlooked here in the US, although he is not overlooked by most US jazz musicians. This recording and many of Pieranunzi’s other recordings are available on Tidal and Qobuz so if you are unfamiliar with his marvelous playing please give him a listen. You will not regret it.

Really it’s pretty good and worth a listen although I do wish that there was more information and liner notes but there is info on Bandcamp Info

I’m going back to Sun Ra one more time because this one was dinner music at our house tonight. Agree with Ralph on Enrico Pieranunzi, a true treasure never to be overlooked!.

Can´t find this cd among my collection! I bought it many years ago. Maybe it is in a box in the basement! At least, I ripped it to digital FLAC 16-44. No on qobuz. Not spotify either. Don´t know whether it is on tidal!

Also in the Sun Ra sphere is this new release from bassist Tyler Mitchell featuring the great Marshall Allen. At the moment it is available on Bandcamp however it may yet show up on Tidal and Qobuz

From what I read, Jacquet was an influence on many jazz saxists.

Including the 'Wild Man from Texas".

Sure he was!

He became famous when he played his famous solo ‘Flying Home’ while in Lionel Hampton’s big band (1942). He was only 19 then! Worth a listen.

And, he played a duet with Bill Clinton at his inauguration!
