Jimmy Rowles Plays Duke Ellington is hailed as one of the best jazz piano solo albums ever by Ethan Iverson, but good luck sourcing this one.
Youâre such a tease
Branford Marsalis Quartet - Belonging
Available on Tidal and Qobuz
âAll tracks composed by Keith Jarrettâ so that would make it a Jarrett tribute album.
Iâm looking forward to getting this on vinyl shortly!
I recently was able to obtain some vinyl that has been hard for me to obtain. I really like the new mastersounds. They are a British four piece jazz fusion/blues/funk band from leeds. They have been around for a couple of decades but i havenât seen any vinyl that was new. I was able to get 5 discs from the fellow who produced them, all bnib. I started with shake it. I usually do classical on sundays but the weather is too good today.
Greetings, fellow jazz hounds!
As many of you may know, April is Jazz Appreciation Month in the rest of the world. In this thread, and in our minds, jazz appreciation is a daily event. To celebrate the music we love, weâve posted a series of jazz-themed lists in the Playlists by Roon section of the Roon home page.
Among them, youâll find a new list titled Jazz Community featuring a sample of the jazz sounds youâve shared here and other various music threads â with a few added favorites of my own sprinkled in.
Like its classical sibling, Jazz Community will be regularly updated with new selections. Iâd like to thank the inaugural contributors for their recommendations. They are, in order of appearance in the playlist: @Paul_Jeno, @Michael_Egan, @Louis_Casadonte, @Matz, @Basstech, @Jazzfan_NJ, @Torben_Rick, @Njal_H, @CoralRad, @Bauer, @LennyBoy, @David_Gibson, @Frederick_Davidson, @SandboxGeneral, @Arlen, @7NoteScale, and @Glimmer.
Thank you all for making this new community list a possibility â and for shining a light on one of musicâs most inspiring forms to both new and seasoned listeners in Roon.
I am working on âTop 100 Jazzâ tracks:
But work is stille in progress
Torben
Donât you mean:
Miles Davis - Top 100 Tracks
Duke Ellington - Top 100 Tracks
Charlie Parker - Top 100 Tracks
Thelonious Monk - Top 100 Tracks
Charles Mingus - Top 100 Tracks
etc.
You get the general idea.
No I donât
Torben
Thanks!!
There are a couple of classic live tracks to add to the suggestion box:
âCastillian Drumsâ from:
and
âDiminuendo and Crescendo in Blueâ from:
What I was trying to say is why limit the playlist to 100 tracks? There is plenty of great jazz out there, more than enough to make many, many âTop 100â playlists.
Gary Bartz - Iâve Known Rivers
Art Ensemble of Chicago - Odwalla
Miles Davis - Zimbabwe (Parts 1 & 2)
Charles Mingus - Folk Forms I
Ahmad Jamal - Poinciana
Thelonious Monk - Well, You Neednât
Sun Ra - Space Is The Place
David Murray - Flowers For Albert
The Lounge Lizards - Big Heart
Dave Holland Quintet - The Balance
We could have a âJazz Is Aliveâ playlist â all live performances, across the years, right up to the modern day. Arooj Aftab â already included â has a live record from London.
My recommended track â hope it is on a streaming service:
Live recorded vocal jazz concert from San Francisco Jazz Fest âHipsters at Herbstâ 11-10-2002
Set 1 is Kurt Elling (w/ Laurence Hobgood; Robert Amster; Frank Parker Jr)
Set 2 is Mark Murphy (w/ Larry Dunlap; David Rokeach; Steward McCain)
Yes-yes, apologies for the year being 1959, but itâs still pretty groovy. Henry Mancini - The Music from Peter Gunn.
Roon says this isnât in the âJazzâ genre . . . Anyway, quite an enjoyable listen, and Iâm happy to pick this one up! Gershwin Plays Gershwin: The Piano Rolls.
