a perfect recording, too bad I can only hear with one ear…
Short Tales Of The Black Forest is the best!

Interesting that you should mention this @S-and-E! I had the Ted Gioia book handy while working on the Jazz Standards playlist, and he also mentioned the heated debate surrounding Gershwin’s compositions.
He notes that “experts” have disputed endlessly how Summertime should be classified. Luckily for music listeners, jazz players quickly got over their aversions to the tune, and there are scads of lovely versions to choose from. I ultimately selected the Armstrong/Fitzgerald because, well… it simply felt rude not to.
New release: Hakan Basar - Maiden Voyage
A little bit of a misnomer since Mr. Basar does have one prior release (On Top of the Roof, 2019) but that’s a minor quibble since this new release is quite good. I hear a bit of Chick Corea’s influence in his lovely playing, which is very dynamic without being over blown. Available on Tidal and Qobuz.
Hej, Torben
I’`ve been listening to The Marrow/Gordon Grdina
Is it correct to call it Indian? Wow, I like the feeling in this sound…
Thanks
It would be more appropriately classified as Arabic…
Hej Nils
Oh, that is a good question Probably “World Music” or “International”. Or “Oriental Jazz”
Favourite track:

Today is a major holiday on the jazz calendar:
and I am spending this (holi)day listeing to the Billie Holiday birthday broadcast on NYC’s WKCR-FM
I’ve gone straight down the rabbit hole after listening to this month’s jazz-themed Roon playlists. Nearly 100 albums have gone into my Listen Later lineup.
Here are two I’ve spun the last few days, both available on Qobuz and TIDAL, I believe:
Duke Ellington & Johnny Hodges - Back to Back
Duke Ellington & Johnny Hodges - Side By Side
A friend sent me an article from Guitar World about Danny Gatton which claimed that “he is the world greatest under the radar guitarist” who played blues, country and jazz. It reminded me that I have a jazz album with Gatton as leader with an all star lineup titled “New York Stories”. Well worth a listen – available on Tidal.
