Falsetto retro-soul. Quite nice! You musicians, what bass is used?

As soon as the sax starts… there’s no more waiting.

‘Black Vivaldi Sonata’ is my favourite. It’s a nice album. I can see Erykah Badu do an album like this.

My guess is Fender Precision to match the old James Jamerson sound. He’s also muting the strings, as Jamerson did. I like bass, but sounds like Frazer is too far back in the mix and the bass too far forward. Great retro soul album, though. He has the sound down.

@robert_vanarsdall, Thanks for sharing your knowledge, I appreciate it  The bass resembles me of Paul McCartney back in the 60s. Maybe I wasn’t too far away then.:grinning:

One of the best musicians in soul / R&B today ! Great song writer and pianist.

This also reminded me of Timbo. Talented multi-instrumentalist !

McCartney is associated with his iconic violin-shaped Hofner, but the “bass-y” songs like “Come Together”, ie all of the Revolver and Rubber Soul albums and most of Sgt. Pepper were done with a Rickenbacker. It has that th-whump sound like no other.

Absolutely loved reading this issue of Mix magazine.

And I can’t wait for their debut album - it’s only 30+ years in the making

Possibly the coolest old dudes in music today… and still in high demand by current R&B artists.

And I love how they’ve kept their trademark look the same since the 80’s !
