· My Nucleus was hooked up via ethernet to an Orbi satellite/extender hooked to an Orbi router but I installed a new Cox Panoramic modem/router combo and now there is no satellite to plug the ethernet in to. What solutions do you have to allow me to use my Nucleus which plugs directly into a DAC since I don't have ethernet access anymore.
Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report! The Nucleus is a dedicated “headless” server, meaning it was designed specifically not to have Wi-Fi built in. Roon requires a rock-solid, low-latency connection to manage high-resolution audio and multi-room streaming, which Wi-Fi can struggle with.
Since you already own an Orbi router and satellite, you don’t actually have to stop using them. You can use the Cox modem simply as a “pass-through.”
The Setup: Log into your Cox Gateway settings (usually at 192.168.0.1) and enable Bridge Mode. This turns off the Cox Wi-Fi and routing.
The Connection: Plug your Orbi Router into the Cox Gateway via Ethernet. Then, place your Orbi satellite near your Nucleus just like you had it before.
This setup could save you money, and you already know the Orbi system works for your Nucleus.
Another option is that Cox sells/rents "Pods" that are designed to work specifically with your new Panoramic router to create a mesh network.
The Setup: Plug a Cox Pod 2.0 into a wall outlet near your Nucleus.
The Connection: The Pod 2.0 has one or two Ethernet ports on the bottom. Plug your Nucleus directly into the Pod.
Note: Make sure you get the 2.0 version, as they offer much better speeds and stability than the older 1st-gen pods.
Another great area on the Roon community to chat with other users who may have experienced the same thing is over in our #RoonSoftware category.
