Describe the issue

I have purchased the nucleus and it will not play back. No Audio zones are visible. I can stream through my Mac Speakers only, but not my audio system. I have tried for a week now sorting through the community and help links. Nothing is working. Help from a live person would be appreciated . I will pay for help....dont want to waste more time going in circles

Describe your network setup

Have a DCS system, with VAC amplifiers, and CD player. I have the Roon Nucleus set up and when I log onto Roon, it states I am signed in, however there are no audio zones to playback, and I have followed all suggestions with no success. Please help

This is your first post since April. Someone from Roon support will respond here in this thread, but it might take a day or two to get through the queue of other customer support threads.

Are you sure you have authorized the Roon Nucleus as your active Roon server and aren’t actually still using a previous Roon server such as your Mac? Go to Roon - Settings - General and make sure your Nucleus is authorized.

Hi Jim. Yes the Nucleus One is authorized. I ac see the IP address and also that I am signed in.

Hey @Tony_Melles,

Thanks for taking the time to write in, and I’m sorry to hear about your issues with vanishing audio devices!

To confirm, you’re only seeing this issue from your Mac remote running Roon?

If this is the case, see if the below helps:

Can you please navigate to macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network , and make sure Roon is allowed. If it is already enabled, toggle it off and on again. Then reboot your Mac, and see if the same issue persists.

Hi Benjamin. Thanks for your message. I checked and in the settings I could see the Nucleus One was the Roon Server that was running. I followed your directions in the Mac OS system settings and it did not make any difference in finding an audio zone to playback. I unplugged the nucleus and restarted the Roon app on my Mac, and then chose to use a different Roon server, which was previously set up on my Mac. Once connected I am able to use Roon again and now have playback on my audio system (DCS Rosini), so at least after following your recommendations I now have audio zones that are findable and work. The problem now is when I plug the Nucleus back in, it is not recognized by the Roon App on my Mac. So I almost feel like I am starting over again, and wonder if it is possible to reset the Nucleus to factory settings and I will start the set up and migration from the start (for a second time) I look forward to your response . Thank you

Have you gone to Roon’s :gear: > General and disconnected the Roon app from the Roon Server running on your Mac? Once that has been done, you should get a screen showing you all the active Roon Servers running in your home network, and you should see the Nucleus here and be able to choose it. If this is not the case, please describe in detail what you are seeing. Thanks.

Hey @Tony_Melles,

Thanks for the update! @Geoff_Coupe is correct in their above statement - you’ll first need to disconnect from the Roon Server instance running on your Mac. You can do this by following the instructions -

You should see your Nucleus online and available - let us know the results :+1:

Hi Geoff and Benjamin. Thanks for your continued assistance. I followed your instructions and when to Roons General on my MacBook Pro (used to be where Roon Core was installed) I can see that the server is listed as MacBook Pro, and I cannot see that Roon Nucleus is on my network. When I disconnect, and log back on, I receive a message telling me I am already signed in and need to get more authorizations, and I have the option to deauthorize Nucleus One. So I cannot access Nucleus One when I try to as I appear to be stuck in my former Roon Core. However when I try logging in to Roon from my iPad, I can see the Roon Nucleus and when I log into it, I can see the app open up and see some of my library. When I try to listen, there are no audio zones available (same local network as my audio system and my MaacBooK Pro.

I’m confused by your statement: “When I disconnect and log back on…”

Disconnecting from the current Roon Server is not the same as logging out of Roon, so you should not need to “log back on”.

What are you actually doing? Disconnecting or logging out of Roon? On this screen you should be clicking the X Disconnect link, not the Logout button…

When you do that, you should be seeing all the running Roon Servers in your network, something like this:

Just connect to your Nucleus One, which should be showing…

Hi @Tony_Melles ,

Please confirm the disconnect / log back on clarification that @Geoff_Coupe requested when you have a chance. Also, I am not noticing your Nucleus as being active recently, and no audio zones showing up is sometimes a symptom of database corruption. Are you still able to access the Nucleus WebUI properly?

It would be ideal if you could access your Nucleus Logs using these instructions and upload a set to our Log Uploader , but if you are not able to access the logs, then I would suggest trying a factory reset on the Nucleus database:

Hi Geoff

Thanks for your assistance. When I go to Roon General, I only see This MAC and the option to disconnect.

I no longer see the Roon Nucleus as an option to connect to.

Hi Norris. I have followed your advice and now when I connect to Roon, I see both options, my Mac and also the Nucleus Server. I have chosen that option, and it asked me to unauthorize the Mac which I have done. Now I see the Roon app opening with some of my previous music on it. For Instance, I can see TIDAL is available. When I pick a song to play, it asks me for an audio device and it states there are no audio devices found. I do see that Nucleus One HDMI output has been chosen as an option and it is connected to my Roon Server Directly. This may have been set up incorrectly when I first got Nucleus 3 weeks ago. How do I go about adding audio devices now?

Can you post a screenshot of Roon’s :gear: > Audio screen? That would show us what audio devices are available to you to be set up in Roon. This help article gives information on setting up audio devices and creating playback Zones:

Hey @Tony_Melles,

Progress!! Great work, I’m happy to hear you’re able to get connected to your Nucleus and are up and running.

@Geoff_Coupe is correct in the above statement - the next step is to get your audio devices set up. What devices are you hoping to set up to play audio from?

If your devices are connected to your Mac, and you’re not seeing any of them under Roon :gear: > Audio, we may need to explore permissions between your Nucleus and your Mac, and make sure Roon has proper access to devices connected to the Mac.

We’ll be on standby for your reply! :raised_hands:

Hi Benjamin and Geoff. Unfortunately I still cannot use the nucleus. If I am able to connect there are no audio zones available. Only HDMI which I don’t have connected. If I disconnect from the nucleus and return to the core installed on my Mac I can use Roon as in the past. To be honest I would prefer to pay a tech to get the Nucleus up and running so I can start to use it. I am frustrated at having to navigate through the recommendations for hours on end to no avail. Can we do a screen sharing session and start to enjoy this new Roon Device? Thank you

I don’t think the issue lies in the Nucleus. What I think you are saying is that when you use Roon connected to the Roon Server in the Nucleus, then Roon’s :gear: > Audio screen only shows the HDMI audio device of the Nucleus, and does not display any other audio devices on other devices in your network. As I asked earlier, a screenshot of this screen would confirm this. I think there is a possible network issue at play here.

Hi @Tony_Melles,
I agree with @Geoff_Coupe that a screenshot of your audio settings would make things more clear. This certainly sounds network related to me.

Unfortunately this is not a service that we can offer. The tech team is quite small and needs to field dozens of support threads every day. So offering one on one support like that isn’t really viable.

Hello Daniel and Geoff
I am not able to give you a screen shot of the audio settings any more. When I open the Roon App, the nucleus is no longer found as a server. I tried 5 times and no luck. On one occasion, I saw that Nucleus had been found and there was a connecting light on it, but it dissapeared and did not connect. I can access Roon through my iPad now which is the Core in my MacBook Pro. When I open this, and look for available audio zones, I have only what you can see on the screen shot (no audio system available)

I understand I have days to return the Nucleus if I cannot get it to work. I appreciate your assistance but am mindful that the clock is ticking for me if we dont get it working soon.

Thank you

Tony
