Describe the issue

It takes a lot of time to fill the SSD on my new Nucleus One with music from the attached USB drive (NUC is one week old). Halfway the transfer the Remote app showed network connection errors and since then I can no longer connect to the NUC. No Web admin possible or access via Windows File Explorer. Tried taking off power, resetted my router several times, but no change. I no longer see it in my router table (I use a cable connection). I tried arp -a, but the MAC address doesn't show up.Looks like the Ethernet port is dead. How to continue?

Describe your network setup

ISP Router connects via cable to the Nucleus, that's all. Roon Remote on my ipad and Windows laptop go via WiFi.

Hi @bertvanderwaal,
Thanks for reaching out to us to ask about this issue. Can you please connect your nucleus to a monitor with a HDMI cable and share a picture of what you see on the screen here? This will help us see whether there is a hardware problem going on.

Hi Daniel. I had the USB drive disconnected and waited for your reply. When it came the TV showed that I could connect to the given IP-address. I tried so and all was back, web admin and access to Roon from the iPad. Great. Then I wanted to continue with copying of music from my USB-drive to the internal SSD, but my drive, connected to the Nucleus, didn’t show up as it did before: on the same level as Internal Storage. Perhaps a reset of the Nucleus would help. With the TV still connected I saw the AMI reboot taking place. Then I saw this message: CPU Fan Fail.Press F1 to skip or F2 to enter Setup. A heating issue?

Hi @bertvanderwaal,
Thanks for the additional details. The fan warning and the fact that our servers have never had contact with your Nucleus make me think you will need to RMA the Nucleus. This form will guide you through that process. Nucleus Troubleshooting

Please let me know if you need any additional help!

Hi Daniel. I followed the questions with answers E and then B and this ends with: "Based on your description so far, we’ll need to put you in touch with one of our representatives via email to continue. ". Looks like we are getting in a loop then… Any other suggestion?

Hi Daniel. In the mean time I found out what the intention of the proposed RMA is and did a reinstall of the OS on the Nucleus. It was, and now is, at version 2.1 (Build 271). I also switched the unit off for the night to cool down and unplugged the powercable as I saw that, although switched off, it still powered the external USB-drive. This morning I restarted the unit with the HDMI cable on the TV. and it still showed the same CPU-fan-failure. I do have access to the unit; all Albums show up on my iPad and the Web-admin interface is working fine. But still the USB drive does no longer shows up right below Internal Storage as it used to do to allow me to copy music to the internal SSD. Connecting a keyboard works fine, btw (to go for example to F2-Setup). And you say my Nucleus didn’t make contact with your servers? So we have three things now: the CPU-fan-fail, The USB drive now showing up and no contact with Roon servers.

Hi @bertvanderwaal,

Our apologies for the confusion - the form my colleague has linked to does request you to submit your email, but it is for the purposes of generating the RMA. It’s not a loop that will re-create your post here; it will instead collect all the necessary information and pass it to the repairs team.

We can communicate the case notes to them, but the most expedited pathway is to associate your request with your account directly by filling out the form to its completion. You can click “Other” → “The issue is related to a physical component…” to bypass the questionnaire.

Hi Connor,
I followed the instructions and sent a screendump of the CPU fan failure.
The unit functions fine, so I was wondering: is this a hanging error that needs to be reset or is it a permanent error? Of course I can open the unit but that would break the warranty?

Hello @bertvanderwaal ,

Further troubleshooting steps regarding this would be best advised by the RMA team. Since you’ve gone ahead and submitted an RMA request, I’ll go ahead and mark this thread for closure, they will follow up via email. Thanks!
