I virtually never had crashes while this was on my Synology NAS. Somehow, I thought that by buying the Nucleus One I would get an easier experience, but this has been the opposite of the case, unfortunately.
Another update. I thought maybe it’s that the albums were high res. Nope, an album with a bit rate of 44 just crashed. I have to admit that I used to use Roon a lot but now that I bought the Nucleus, I barely do. It’s just too frustrating. I feel bad I bought it. I wish I didn’t. I never had this problem with Roon on my Synology NAS. It just worked. Please help.
Thanks for letting us know that the issue is still ongoing. We reviewed your diagnostics once more and we noticed an interesting pattern here, your Nucleus One appears to keep trying to rescan the below file over and over again:
/InternalStorage/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/Peter Gabriel/SO _ US _ UP/08 THIS IS THE PICTURE (Excellent Birds) [DSD64].aif
Can you please exclude/move this album out from your Internal Storage to somewhere Roon is not watching, reboot your Nucleus server and let us know if everything performs better after removing it? If the issue is resolved after moving the album, we kindly ask that you send us this album so that we can try to reproduce the crash on our end to the below link, and let us know once uploaded, thanks!
Here is a pastebin with a recent log. I don’t really see the crash. Not from RAATserver but from Roonserver. Is there any way I could have a temporary second license so I could listen to Roon again from my Diskstation 418+ without delicensing the Nucleus. I just started that up again and although it doesn’t quite sound as good as the Nucleus (!), it is playing through this very same album without any problems. I have wound up going from using Roon constantly to using it once a week when I want to have an unpleasant time. It’s sad. The other option is that I disable the Nucleus and then never touch it again, making me wonder if I should put it on eBay (and is it fair if it crashes all the time?).
We’re unable to offer additional licenses at this time, but it’s quite easy to authorize and de-authorize servers, so there shouldn’t be an issue in doing that!
Based on a recent digantoics report, we’re seeing Roon Server crash due to lack of available RAM on the machine:
Hi @tau_ceti,
Yes, the RAM in your Nucleus is upgradeable. However, accessing the RAM slot requires removing the motherboard from the chassis, which can be a bit involved. If you’re comfortable working with hardware and would prefer to do it yourself, we’re happy to provide detailed step-by-step instructions.
Alternatively, if you’d rather not take it apart yourself, you can submit an RMA and have the upgrade performed for you—our team will handle the installation and return it to you ready to go.
Just let us know which option works best for you, and we’ll get you the information you need!
To be honest, I think I’d rather sell the unit and stay with the old Synology NAS that I know works and never gave me any trouble. I am very said to say that the Nucleus has reduced my usage of Roon by 95%, from daily to once every other week. I bought it because I wanted to support Roon and somehow (not sure why), I thought it would be easier. Very much the opposite. If I could get my money back, I’d return it, but I bought before launch, so obviously that was a long time ago.
How can I verify the unit works so I don’t feel guilty selling it? Simply get rid of most of my library and try playing it?
