Describe the issue

The Nucleus (rev B) won't recognize an external Sandisk Professional G-Drive 6TB HDD; interface USB 3.2 Gen 2; formatted NTFS. Tried the Nucleus with a 1TB thumb drive, 2TB external HDD and Western Digital Book Duo with 2 - 4TB HDD's and all worked fine. Please advise!

You need to attach the drive to a Windows PC and run chdsk. See this post:

The suggested format is exFAT. Linux has potential issues with NTFS.

I know it’s a lot of work if the drive is full of music, but use this as an opportunity to switch to exFAT. This is more compatible, and will work out much better in the long run. Stay away from NTFS.

Hi @David_Preston1,
Thanks for writing in to ask about this. Unfortunately the other users are correct. exFAT is the format we suggest using. If you are still having issues after reformatting let us know and we can continue troubleshooting.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post!

I did run the chkdsk procedure and no issues where found. Before starting to reformat the HDD to exFAT, I tried one last thing to see if Roon would recognize the drive: I changed the name of the drive from “PCM - DSD Playback” to just “Playback” and Roon was then able to recognize the drive! It looks like Linux had an issue reading the drive name.

Even though Roon is now working with the drive, based on the feedback, I will reformat the drive to exFAT and start again. Regards, David
