Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report! Sorry to hear about your Nucleus One issues.
We were able to review a fresh diagnostic report from Roon Server running on your Nucleus, and found repeated out of memory errors surrounding your server restarts:
(none) user.warn kernel: [527702.461535] oom_kill_process+0xf3/0x180
(none) user.warn kernel: [527702.461538] out_of_memory+0x10a/0x580
(none) user.err kernel: [527702.461946] Out of memory: Killed process 9738 (RoonAppliance)
It looks like you have around 40k tracks within your library, which is well within the means of smooth functionality for the Nucleus. We’ve seen a handful of similar reports, and our development team has a ticket in to investigate these anomalies further.
I’d be curious for you to test in the meantime - if you temporarily disable all your endpoints, other than the system output of one of your remotes, and listen to Roon / your Nucleus with headphones only, do you still see the same issues?
I don’t have any immediate next steps for you, unfortunately, outside of increasing the RAM amount within the device, or testing out slimming your library down (both things you shouldn’t have to do normally).
What I can confirm is that this ticket has a high priority tag, and so I’m hoping we’ll have additional information and hopefully a solution to share with you soon.
Let me know if you’d be willing to try out any of the above in the meantime. Thank you!
Thks for your answer, even if there not a precise diagnostic or clear instructions to solve this very annoying issue.
This said, I have some additional infos or questions:
Q1. How can you remoteyl access my Nucleus Logs configured behind a firewall ? I didn’t provide you logs…
My library has this size : Q2 . Why should my Nucleus have memories issues regarding this amount of tracks ? I used to have the same library until buying a Nucleus this year on a Synology DS918+ NAS with Roon Package and never had this problem before event with 16Gb which is enough for this usage. To me it sounds like a memory crash, because of a default failure or defect on my Nucleus. I have seen others posts about this topic but not definitive solutions. I you ask me to replace temporarely my original memories modules in the Nucleus, why not, but then you should provide me first the proper equivalent module and second to reimburse me something. Or either I can send you back the Nucleus One for reparing or replacement which is the worst scenario for me…,
P.S I have nos tracks or music files stored on Nucleus. The Roon is connected to my Synology DS918+ NAS folders through Storage roon interface. Roon browse only DSD files and the size of the shared folder is
Q3. Is this amount of file a problem ? Q4. Should I transfer them into Nucleus on a SSD internal storage ? I have 1To only and not used yet (see the picture).
I have no errors or orphans files in my Roon Library.
Q5. I don’t really undestand what do you expect with desactivating the Endpoints ? You mean the Audio devices that are “enabled” in the menu “Audio” in Roon ? If so, I will disabled most of them and see if it helps.
Q6. By the way, I am asking if this audio device “volumio” using a old “roon bridge” version could be the problem ? But as I said with my previous NAS setup I never had such issues with the same audio devices…
by a new Crucial DDR4 3200 CL22 “notebook” 16Gb model
and guess what ? No crashes or reboot for my Roon Server Software since more than 24h and of course everything is faster and even the Backup (automatic or manual) works just fine and do not interrupt after a while.
It’s like a rebirth and reconciliation with my Roon Nucleus box !
I really love Roon products and now I will start to enjoy the all setup.
Thks.
Thanks for the update! Glad to hear upping the RAM helped you - there are some additional items our team is reviewing around the Nucleus One and library size, as you’ve mentioned yourself - 40k tracks is well within the limits of the machine. Nonetheless, I’m happy you’re backup and running smoothly.
