Describe the issue
Roon Nucleus takes forever to start up and find files in my library. It also constantly says it can’t find audio devices. All of this is recent as I’ve subscriber to Roon for over 10!years and it’s now a mess
Describe your network setup
Nucleus is connected via Ethernet directly to my modem with ISP speed at 1.3 GB.
Thank you for the detailed and well-structured report - the pattern you describe is very useful for diagnosis.
To investigate further, could you please upload your Roon database to our File Uploader? You can find the database location here: Database Location. Please let us know once it has been uploaded.
I just sent you my Roon Server database. The problem is with Roon not on my end as I can stream Qoboz Connect to my media streamer and the connectivity is flawless. I then play the same tracks within Roon (using a Bluesound Node 2 and a WiiM Pro) and it takes forever to find the same files and starts and stops constantly. You guys messed something up with your most recent software update as I never had problems before.
Thank you for uploading your database - we’ve reviewed the logs and have a clearer picture of what’s happening.
The pattern we’re seeing is consistent with a memory management issue in RoonServer that causes the internal RAAT broker to become increasingly unstable over time, resulting in audio endpoints dropping and slow response times. This is something our R&D team is actively working on.
In the meantime, the most reliable workaround is to restart your Nucleus once a day - this resets the memory state and keeps things running smoothly until the fix lands in a stable release.
For Nucleus, the process involves downloading the instruction file, copying it to the /Data/Reinstall directory on your Nucleus, and clicking “Reinstall” in the RoonOS admin page. Please make sure to create a fresh backup of your database before switching.
Either way, your database has been passed along to R&D for further investigation, so it will contribute to resolving this properly.
Appreciate your patience, and thank you for being with Roon for ten years - we want to get this right for you.
