Description Of Issue

Most of the time, Roon is very responsive and I receive search results after about 1 second.
Same for browsing through my library.

But about every 20th search or command leads to the Roon load symbol. And I have to wait for about 2,5 minutes to get a reaction. If I navigate backwards, I can see where I have been last. But I don’t get any new screen while these 2,5 minutes.
Playback of music continues but if I try to skip the track, the music stops and continues after 2,5 minutes.

I can also go to the options menu and change settings. So the connection between my iPad and the roon core is still up. I just can’t navigate through music or change songs…
The behaviour does not change if I use another client for controlling the Core (Android smartphone).

I am using TIDAL as well as Qobuz and I deactivated both of them separately:
1 - only using TIDAL (issue is still present)
2 - only using Qobuz (issue is still present)
3 - not using TIDAL or Qobuz (issue seems to be solved)

I do not have any trouble at all with my internet connection, using 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as DNS.
Surfing in the internet is always possible, also while Roon lags for 2,5 minutes.

Any suggestions?

Hi @Matthias_Heberle,

The next time this occurs can you let us know the time it happens as well as the text that you’re searching for? We’ll enable diagnostics and take a look at what’s happening.

Thanks!

Hi Dylan,

thanks for your reply. It happens quite now:
21.12.2020 - 05:36 AM

I was adding “Joe Strummer - Streetcore” to my library, then trying to navigate to “Jim Croce - You Don’t Mess Around With Jim”.

Best Regards
Matthias

Hello @Matthias_Heberle,

I have enabled diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here. The next time your Core is active a diagnostics report will automatically be generated and uploaded directly to our servers

Once that’s been received, I’ll be sure to update this thread and pass the diagnostics over to the team for further analysis.

Another occurence:

22.12.2020 - 15:11 (03:11 PM).
During playing “Stereobal - Metronomic Underground” and trying to navigate backwards using the “left arrow” in the upper, left corner.

Next occurence:

22.12.2020 - 15:22 (3:22 PM).
During playing “Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - As I Sat Sadly By Her Side”, trying to navigate to the “Discover” category.

Hello @Matthias_Heberle, I just took a look to see if we’re received diagnostics but it looks like your Antipodes core hasn’t connected to our servers in a few days. Would you be able to open Roon on the core or reboot the device so we can see if the report will upload?

Hi Nuwriy,

I just rebooted the roon server right now.

Best Regards
Matthias

One more occurence:

23.12.2020 - 02:34 (AM):
While playing “Pearl Jam - Oceans (MTV Unplugged)” trying to navigate to the album “Pearl Jam - Ten” using the link in the album description of the MTV Unplugged album.

Another occurence:

23.12.2020 - 16:21 (4:21 PM):
While Playing “B.B. King - Every Day I Have The Blues”. I Opened the “Albums” section and clicked “Anthony And The Johnsons - I Am A Bird Now”, which is a local FLAC album on my internal SSD - 3 miunutes response time.

Hello @Matthias_Heberle, and thanks for the timestamps! I was able to collect diagnostics and have passed them onto our QA team for investigation. I’ll be sure to update this thread once I have their feedback.

Hi Nuwriy,

any news for my issue?
Or do you want me to collect more timestamps…because there are plenty.
I see about 10 occurencies every day thus waiting for roon almost half an hour every day,

Best
Matthias

Hello @Matthias_Heberle, my apologies for the delay, but I do bring news! The QA team took a look and it looks like you’re still seeing some DNS issues, as seen below:

With that being said, could you tell me where you set up Google DNS? Was it on the router, one of the devices? Also does your Antipodes have a static IP? Our QA team would also like to know if you have this issue if you use another machine as your core temporarily. Please let me know!

Hello nuwriy,

thanks for your reply.
I changed the DNS settings on my router:

My Antipodes roon core server has a static IP:

I will try running the core on different hardware to pinpoint the problem…

Best
Matthias

Hi @Matthias_Heberle,

Have you been able to try using a different Core? Is there any change when doing so?

Hi Dylan,

I set up a old Windows PC as roon Core (Windows 10 x64).
I did not change my networt configuration otherwise: I use the existing LAN cable, unplugged the previous core and plugged the new core.

The issue seens to be solved, I did not see it again since friday.
I already asked the Antipodes support for advise and I am currently waiting for reply.

Thanks for the hint with changing the core temporarily.

Best Regards
Matthias
