Outside from home I can access Roon Core via Phone, but not via PC?

Hi all!

Roon Core Machine

Running a Synology’s version of the core; works fine on local network and outside via phone (port redirection works)

Networking Gear & Setup Details

1) Who is your internet service provider?
Local provider, public IP, no restrictions.

2) Please list the make and model of your modem and router?
Asus RT-AX86U, all in order, every other service I have mapped is accessible.

3) Do you have any additional network hardware, like additional routers or managed switches?
Yes but all that’s cleared out, I have many things running and exposing ports without issues.

4) Does your network have any VPNs, proxy servers, or enterprise-grade security?
Has it but as well, works with everything else

Description of Issue -

What is the exact port forwarding error message you see in the Roon Settings → ARC tab?

Maybe what I am trying is not even supported, I could not find information about it, perhaps didnt formulate the correct search query or so.

When I try to use Roon at work, I expect it to connect home and play from Arc (which as stated above, is installed and running on a Synology NAS)

Tests:

  • It works on the phone (5G) or wifi at work (basically everywhere)
  • It works from local network (wifi or ethernet)
  • Doesn’t work from PC at work (wifi, shared wifi from phone or ethernet)

Am I missing something?

The only thing you are missing is that the ARC app only exists for iPhone/iPad and Android devices. There is no PC version. And using ARC outside from home requires the ARC app.

When at work, you could, e.g., attach an external DAC to the phone.

The feature suggestion for a ARC app for PC is here - you can add your vote:

Alternatively, you could rig something up to use the full Roon app on the PC when at work, using some VPN solution like ZeroTier or something. See the Tinkering section.
