Thanks Jaime, I installed the latest updates and it works properly now. A very nice plugin for those who want a Roon ‘Now Playing’ display in their living room with the option to display their own images when Roon is not playing.
Simon, depending on what you want you could use the Roon web display in Safari:
And then use one of the kiosk modes for the iPad? Maybe not as good as roFrame, but it might work for you?
There are also some stuff on changing what is displayed, there are probably more:
Hi,
I do, but I have to manually start a shortcut containing the URL, which then opens in full screen to display ‘What’s Playing’ but there is no power management, or wake from Lock screen capabilities here. The iPad needs to be taken out of Sleep mode, and the shortcut activated.
If could be an iOS that runs all the time in the background, and when Roon starts playing, shows the display URL and then once the playback is completed, after a timeout, the iPad goes back to sleep behind the lock screen.
And also runs in iOS 12 onwards, so can be used with older, semi-obsolete iPads that can be dedicated to this purpose.
Hi Simon, sorry I thought Single App Mode, did at least some of this, although I could be wrong?
There’s also a number of kiosk apps in the App Store, some free, that do what you want (though obviously just what’s playing - no picture frame).
Single App Mode would lock the iPad down to just run “What’s Playing” all the time but doesn’t lock like it provides for Sleep & Lock Screen interaction.
Plus you need you be a MDM admin for the iPad
Will check these out, but do they interact with the sleep and lock screen functions of the iPad?
I want the iPad to be ‘off’ with lock screen enable after a period of inactivity. i.e. over night, during the day when there is no music being played. And then, when playback is selected, come out of sleep and lock screen to show ‘What’s Playing’. If necessary I can then still use the iPad for other simple functions such as Weather, as a photo frame, time etc.
I did record these in a Feature Suggestion, see Improved Roon Display to allow a dedicated screen device with votes assigned
No, kiosk mode is just on, I think. What you’re describing is kind of a WOL type function. What’s your rationale - power savings? Or avoiding screen burn? Or no light pollution in the room? For an old iPad 12 I wouldn’t personally worry about any of these things because I’d be eking a few more months / years out of EOL hardware, but it’s not me we’re talking about here.
Yes, maybe watching TV/Movie with the lights off/low. Plus I don’t want the iPad screen on, displaying wallpaper/weather/pictures to an empty room for hours on end. That’s just wasteful
