· On the play bar on bottom of screen, the red line keeps moving past end of song while a new song is playing. Also the play clock keeps moving . The artwork doesn’t move to next one. Never had this issue before. Been using roon for years. I tried everything I can think of, but it’s probably a bug or something. But this has been happening last couple of days. What is causing this?
I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here.
However, before I enable this feature, I’d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.
First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.
Thanks for replying. I logged out and back in and that fixed it. I listened to music after that to see if would happen again and didn’t do again. S o I guess it just a bug. Probably going from nucleus one back and forth trying to get it to work .
Also, I apologize, but I given up on Nucleus One because I couldn’t get it to work. I had it for 3 months trying to do it. It has given me problems. The big one was when I changed my external hard drive to exFat from NTFS and that locked my external hard drive. So I had to use disk drill. It took a long time to get my music back together and download missing music. I didn’t understand the consequences. Didn’t know what I was doing. After that I followed directions and just was’nt able to get it going. It would be great to use it, but I’ll just use my pc. If there was someone near me from roon community that could come in and do this for me I would appreciate it, but I do understand you guys don’t have that kind of thing. There is is just a of reading, and going back and forth.
I was thinking what if roon had a roon gathering in your area to meet people that are going through similar issues. I never met anyone that uses roon and it is not something everyone has. Not everyone is playing music with a roon server or through thier computer. So it would be hard. But it’s an idea.
I will keep the nucleus or might sell it. I don’t know. $600 is pretty hefty for something like that that’s not plug and go. I can probably give another shot, but I leave it for now.
It did it again. It restarts the song and then it passes clock on right side of playbar with a new song playing. Red line doesn’t stop. This happened after hour and half of listening playing music. An later has gone by it did it again. So it’s temporary to logout and log back in, but that’s not fixing issue.
So I logged out and logged back in. We can run diagnostics to fix issue.
Thanks for the update, can you please share the specific track name? Does this only happen with local content?
We’re unable to connect to your Roon Server to enable diganostics, so we’ll need a set of manual Roon and Roon Server logs in this case.
Can you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!
Thanks for sticking with it and getting those logs over, they told us exactly what we needed.
A handful of your files are simply longer than the length Roon has recorded for them, and the progress bar is faithfully reporting that.
Take “Station to Station” from your 2016 remaster. Roon has it recorded as 10:17, so it expects the track to end there, but when it reads the file, the audio doesn’t run out until 14:42. Roon can’t move on until the file genuinely ends, so the timer keeps climbing and the artwork stays put, because as far as Roon is concerned that track is still playing.
It’s happening on exactly three albums, every track of each:
Blackstar (24/96), running ~25% long
Cracked Actor (Live) (24/96), ~27% long
Station To Station, 2016 remaster (24/192), ~43% long
The other 323 tracks you played across five days of logs all finished on time, and it’s perfectly repeatable, “Station to Station” overran by 4:41 on three separate plays. Your DSD256 upsampling isn’t the cause either: one Blackstar track played with DSD conversion off entirely and overran by the same amount.
Two things would tell us where to go next:
Open one of those files outside Roon, VLC, foobar2000, even Windows file properties, and tell us the length it reports for “Station to Station”. If it’s close to 14:42, the download itself is bad and re-downloading from HDtracks should sort it. If it says 10:17, that’s ours to chase.
What do you actually hear while the bar runs past the end, the same song still going, silence, or the next song already underway? You mentioned a new track starting, which would be a real clue about how those files were split.
One unrelated thing worth fixing: two of your remotes are sharing the same device identity (192.yyy.y.196 and .198) and have been kicking each other off the server 150 times over five days. That’s likely why signing out and back in seems to help, though the logs show the track right after your 2:16pm sign-out on the 27th still ran 1:57 long, so it’s only resetting the display. If one of those devices was set up from a backup of the other, signing out on both and back in one at a time should separate them. Let us know which two they are. Thank you!
So I went to "station to station " 2016 remaster and played it on another music player run by Windows player. It did exactly what roon was doing. Song would end go to “golden years” on the same player bar even the next song plays, but ends during that one. So it was a bad download track that probably got corrupted from issues if getting my external hard drive locked and using disk drill to bring it back. So I ordered another “station to station” from hdtracks because I download it long time ago and they won’t go past 2020 to re download and it played well. No play bar problems. I will check more songs when this happens again.
However there is still issue I can’t fix. And that is a song would play after a few minutes and restart. No audio messages letting you what happened. But this will probably tie together of bad download corrupted songs that need to be fixed. Because it plays the song and play bar shows red line still moving. Just weird things happening that has not happened before until recently.
On your last paragraph, I don’t know how to answer your question. I did a backup. And it is on that same back up. I don’t know what remote you are referring to. I decided not to use nucleus one because I couldn’t get to work. So I went back to my pc. Anything I can check let me know.
That extra test with Windows player confirmed the bad download on Station to Station. Since the re-downloaded copy plays normally, we are in the clear on that part.
For the track that plays for a few minutes and then restarts, please let us know the exact local time and date, along with the track name, the next time you catch it happening. That will help us line it up with what the server is doing at the time.
Keep an eye out for any improvement now that the corrupt tracks are replaced, and let us know how it goes.
Checking in to see how things are going, were you able to catch the next restart and note the exact local time, date, and track name for us? Since the bad download on Station to Station is sorted, we are mainly trying to line up the track that restarts with what the server was doing at that moment, so any new example would help us narrow it down. Please reply with whatever you have, and we can take it from there.
Please note, if we don’t hear back from you this thread may close automatically soon. If the thread auto-closes and you need further assistance, please submit a reopen support request via the technical support help form below and specify that the issue should be reopened. Thank you.
I came across on more same issues on albums that were purchased from HDtracks. But those albums were purchased before 2020. I have to pay again to get those bad albums back. So like I said they were damaged from my external hard drive being locked and using disk drill to recover. Just total destruction. I have to spend more time looking for bad albums to find replacement. So this is not a roon behavior gone wrong.
I also had a hard time getting nucleus one to work and decided to keep using my laptop. I don’t know if I will come back to that. Too much errors. But I don’t know how much I’m missing if I had it going. But everything else I m happy with it. It was a 3 month recovery to get it back.
Hi @Brian_Sage, your reading of it is right. The overrunning tracks came from the Disk Drill recovery, not from Roon, and the Windows Media Player test settled that. Losing an external drive and spending three months rebuilding a collection is a rough stretch by any measure.
Two things worth saying now.
Please clear the damaged albums out of Roon properly. Deleting or replacing the files is only half of it. Roon keeps a record of every file it has ever seen, so a corrupted track can linger in your library after the file itself is gone. Once you have removed the bad files from your drive:
Please go to Settings, then Library, and click Clean Up Library.
Tick the entries for files that are no longer there, and confirm.
That makes Roon forget them, so when you re-download those albums they come in completely fresh rather than inheriting anything from the damaged copies. The article walks through it with screenshots:
While you are working through your collection, please also check Settings, then Library, then Skipped Files. Anything Roon could not read at all will be listed there, and that is the fastest way to find the rest of the damage without playing every album.
On the Nucleus One. Your library is around 18,000 tracks. A Nucleus One is built for libraries up to roughly 10,000 albums, on the order of 100,000 tracks, so yours sits comfortably inside what it is designed for. The trouble you had was not the machine struggling with your collection.
If you want to try again, the sensible order is to finish cleaning up on the PC first, then move across. Get your library on the PC to the state you want, make a backup to a USB drive or network location, then restore that backup onto the Nucleus. Everything comes with it: playlists, edits, play history, settings. This is the guide, and it is written for exactly this move:
There is no hurry, and there is nothing wrong with staying on the PC in the meantime. If you do decide to have another go, please start a thread and post where you get stuck, step by step. We will work through it with you rather than pointing at articles.
