Describe the issue

Hi. I'm new to Roon. I have it installed on my Mac mini and want to stream it to my HiFi Rose RS150B. I have Tidal and Qobuz. I push play and the music never starts. It just sits at 0 time played into the song.

Describe your network setup

I have a router from Cox. The only thing I've tried is turning off Advance Protection. That didn't help. The HiFi Rose is connected to the network via wifi.

Hey @Gary_Wiener,

Thanks for writing in, and welcome to the Roon Community! Sorry to hear about your streaming issues.

Can you test out setting up a direct ethernet connection from the Rose to your router?

Are you able to play audio via Tidal or Qobuz from the apps directly?

Are you able to play audio to the system output of the Mac or any other remote device you’re using?

If you could please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader? This will help our team better pinpoint what might be happening behind the scenes.

We’ll be on standby for your reply! :raised_hands:

@Benjamin, I’m not back at that location until next week, but I’ll have a long ethernet cable so I can do some testing and I’ll reply to the rest of your post. Thanks so much! Gary

Sounds good @Gary_Wiener, we’ll keep an eye out for your response when you’re able to get to it :+1:

Benjamin, I tested using a direct Ethernet connect and Roon worked perfectly. Know what’s causing that?

I could also use Qobuz and Tidal via the app directly with Ethernet only, but Roon still wasn’t working with Ethernet only.

I’m back again on Monday, and I’ll send over logs.

Thanks again,
Gary

Hi @Gary_Wiener,

A direct ethernet connection avoids the interference that Wi-Fi can be susceptible to. That’s why we recommend using ethernet connections when possible.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for those logs!

Files have been uploaded.

No issues playing directly from Tidal and Qobuz via WiFi, but Roon doesn’t want to work. Again, this is a HiFi Rose RS150.

Thanks!
Gary

Hey @Gary_Wiener,

To confirm, do you still have no issues with connecting via ethernet? It’s difficult to understand your current status based on your other responses.

If this is the case, the issue is likely network-related - are you able to maintain a hardwire connection? It’ll likely allow you a far better Roon experience in the long run.

From the logs you’ve sent over, it looks like you’ve sent a set of Roon logs, not Roon Server logs, would you be able to send over a set of server logs?

Thank you!

I’m back tomorrow, so I’ll try again.

By the way, does the Anthem AVM90 work with Roon yet?

Thank you,
Gary

Hi @Gary_Wiener ,

Yes, please let us know your results when you can.

The Anthem should work via HDMI, but I don’t see it listed in our Roon Ready device database.

So, I’m going to make a change. The location where I’ve been having trouble is my work apartment. I’m going to use the software with my HiFi Rose to stream music.

I’m going to move my Roon subscription to my home, and I bought a Nucleus One to use there. Everything there can be connected via Ethernet, so it should be easier, more stable, etc.

My question is this. With the Nucleus One, do I need to put a hard drive in it? I don’t want to add my music library to it? If so, why? I’m just going to use it, at least for now, for Tidal and Qubuz.

Thanks,
Gary

No, you don’t need to put a drive in, it would only be for local files that you don’t have

Thanks! No hard drive. That’s helpful.

Now, as for connection. I have a few options.

1 - I think I can go HDMI out if the Nucleus One into my Anthem AVM 90.

2 - I can go rca analog out of my Bluesound Icon into my Anthem AVM 90.

3 - I can go optical or coax digital out of my Bluesound Icon into my Anthem AVM 90.

I don’t know if it will matter, but it seems the Bluesound Icon DACs are limited to 24/192 and the Anthem’s are 32/768.

Any suggestions on what will sound best and why?

Thanks!!!

I would try all of them and see which one sounds most likable to your ears

May be easier said than done, but I’ll try.

Certainly let us know how it goes @Gary_Wiener - we’ll be happy to answer any additional questions you have along the way! :raised_hands:
