Does the issue happen with local library music, streaming service music, or both?
· *Only local library *music is affected.
Where is your local content stored?
· On the same machine where RoonServer is running, internal drive
Please try playing content of a lower sample rate (44.1kHz or 48kHz), does this work as expected?
· No, lower sample rates are still affected
What are the make and model of the affected audio device(s) and the connection type?
· B&W Formation Wedge, KEF LS50 Wireless II, Zev stream, Sonos MOVE, Basically my whole system everything RAAT or Airplay works inconsistently
Describe the issue
My system had zero problems about 2 or 3 software updates ago. Since then every new update doesn’t seem to fix the problem and sometimes makes it worse. I know this is a software issue since my system has run perfectly fine in the past with any configuration. Basically songs will pause/play/pause then skip one or many tracks and at some point just stop playing music. Are you able to find the code that’s jamming up my system or can I start going back software version until I find the stable one for my system?
Describe your network setup
I have a net gear router with some components connected directly to it and some used wireless
I have a Netgear AC1750 smart Wi-Fi router model R6400
When using the HDMI connection directly off my Roon ROCK mini pc I experience no issues.
My LS50 “wireless” are wired to the same switch which is wired to the router. They are both using the same path to router but won’t stably play.
I still believe this to be a software issue since in previous software versions I’ve had no problems. This has been a back and forth issue as updates are released and usually is resolved with an update but this time the issue has persisted through multiple updates. It’s very frustrating since my system basically doesn’t work properly anymore the way I used to use it. Please help me resolve these issues. Thanks.
Hi @Tom_Moreno,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here.
However, before I enable this feature, I’d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.
First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.
Thank you for your patience. Here’s what we can interpret from diagnostic logging surrounding the dropout events.
Whenever Roon distributes audio to any of the endpoints in the Zones above - the B&W Wedge, the KEF LS50 II, or the iFi Zen Stream - there are dropouts reported by RAAT. The packets forming the audio stream aren’t reaching these endpoints intact or as expected, even after subsequent attempts by RoonServer to resend them.
This also occurs with Airplay Zones - both the iFi Zen’s Airplay mode as well as the Sonos. It occurs primarily with grouped Zones involving the LS50, the Zone that reports the most dropouts in logs. This KEF endpoint struggles to keep up with other Zones when grouped because it seems to receive the fewest intact packets.
Is the switch in question a managed switch? Please provide the model if so.
Do you have any access point behind the switch providing WiFi, or is this network topology limited to: router → switch → RoonServer + endpoints?
Please provide as thorough a description of your network setup as possible. In your router admin settings, enable IGMP Proxying. If I remember correctly, on this particular series of router, this setting is intertwined with multicast traffic on a single subnet.
So I’ve gone down the networking rabbit hole … the switch is not managed aka a “dumb” switch and that connects directly to my modem/wifi router. But I have another Wi-Fi router that I kept because I have so many devices connected to that Wi-Fi network. Anyway I believe I’ve always had this situation since setting up Roon, and this setup worked fine a few updates ago. So basically I had my rock and the LS50s wired to the same connection and all the wireless items off the separate Wi-Fi router that is wired to the modem/wifi router.
So now that I understand this setup wasn’t working properly with the current software I’ve been attempting to migrate all my audio devices to the same Wi-Fi network that my Rock and LS50s are wired to. Unfortunately I can’t get my iFi Zen Stream to connect wirelessly (I think it’s an ifi app issue) along with my Sonos Move (no idea why that’s not working).
I’m still a bit frustrated since I haven’t been able to migrate all my devices but the devices that are connected are working fine.
I’d appreciate and guidance on how to get my iFi Zen Stream and Sonos Move connected since normal methods aren’t working.
Hi @Tom_Moreno,
I’m glad to hear you’ve been able to get most of your devices working.
I would recommend contacting support for iFi Audio and Sonos for that. We can look up the user manuals for these products and try to figure it out for you. However support for those companies would be much better positioned to help you with this in an efficient manner.
