I find myself in the same position. It may not yet support TrueHD/Meridian Lossless Packing (it shows as DD+ on my receiver, so still lossy) but I expect it will get there. What formats have you tried other than Atmos?
Atmos was introduced to Tidal in December 2019. We are fast approaching 5 years with Roon unable to process it. I think itās time Roon gave us some clarity as to why this hasnāt happened.
I get that they donāt generally talk about their development āroadmapā but this is just getting ridiculousā¦
As much as I would like to see support from Roon on this, I do not believe that Roon can introduce Atmos without a Authorized Container from Dolby. There is no documentation as to what Tidal and others are using for a container.
As for as I know, there are 2 ways to purchase Atmos. One is a Blu Ray disk and the other is a MKV, MKA file which I wonder if this is even legit for purchase.
Then there is the DAC Hardware support for Atmos. Just like Roon they are also not introducing anything either. What source container would they use for content?
It is going to be for Dolby to take the lead on this and they are the ones holding all of the cards but they are very silent on this. Until then nothing can happen.

Just want to +1 on this one.
Even without Atmos bitstreaming, what about (E)AC3 and TrueHD decoding support to base 5.1 or 7.1? Even without Atmos, this will allow users with these kinds of codec types (as .M4A or .MKA containers for example) to play the music with ReplayGain, awaiting the day when bitstreaming passthrough of Atmos is available.
If this is important to you, please vote for it by using the Vote button at the top of the thread - ā+1ā posts cut no ice with the Roon Labs team. Thanks.
I tried out Roon recently on the trial offered and I loved the interface and just generally how Roon works. I lazily hadnāt looked to see if there was Dolby Atmos as I just assumed Roon would have it - I was prepared to subscribe until I learnt it didnāt support it. I just canāt justify the subscription without it. So Iāll keep an eye (or ear) out for when itās supported. As soon as it is Iāll be subscribing fer sure.
Donāt hold your breath!
You are too late, he died 4 days ago after no one told him ![]()
+1 from me
Itās bananas that five years later this still hasnāt been moved on. Roonās about to get left behind by the streaming services that already have this integrated.
+1 from me
Lifetime subscriber here. Quite disappointed in Roonās silence on this issue. Itās one of the most requested features, and while I can understand if licensing costs or other issues are preventing integration, but the lack of any input from Roon even generally about its efforts, the difficulties being faced, or whether there is any hope in the near term or not is inexcusable. An integral partner to the Roon ecosystem (Tidal) offers Atmos and heavily promotes it, yet Roon is incapable of playing it. Why? Roon users deserve some explanation. I have stopped using Roon in favor of Tidal (directly) and Apple Music and likely wonāt return until this issue is addressed.
The whole situation makes no sense to me. If there is some technical reason outside of Roonās control then why not tell us?

*Gasp, splutter, cough - hoik! (I donāt remember swallowing that).
Iāve just read that buying a Roon nucleus server and hooking it up via HDMI to⦠Iām guessing a spare port on, say for instance, on my telly will allow me to hear multi channel audio through Roon.
Could this possibly be the case?
(I climbed onto this lifeboat but thereās a bloody tiger up the other end). ![]()
Multichannel yes; Atmos no.
As Geoff has said Roon can extract standard 5.1 Music from within the ATMOS file.
I also put mine on my Plex server so that Plex can pick them up.as video files and decode them.
Either way it is a good and enjoyable experience
Just to be clear, this is not limited to a Nucleus. A Windows PC connected up can do the same, for example.
Or even better any Linux machine ![]()
Thanks Geoff, Michael and Rugby. Iāve decided to make the jump into Roon despite it not having Atmos support. I just enjoy the user experience and how it opens me up to new musical experiences. I can always do searches etc through Tidal for Atmos. I just hoped to have it all within a central app such as Roon and be able to download them for (what Iāve read) is a superior sound experience by having the files based locally vs streaming.
That and I really do loves me Atmos. But Iāll wait - Roon will support Atmos at some point. I donāt see how they canāt.
In that case welcome to the Roon community Ross.
I am sure that Roon will support ATMOS at some point, but I would not be surprised if it was several years yet. As mentioned previously, the 5.1 mixes on the Atmos rips sound great to me, and I just jump over Plex Server if I want more of a concert experience.
For all the complaints you read on this forum, the Roon experience is mostly good and positive, we are looking for perfection, and simply amazing is never quite good enough for most of us. As someone that actively uses multiple other playback solutions, I tend to reach for Roon first.
Roon can do Dolby Atmos now.
