No, it can’t.
It can play hard-coded “rips” of Atmos content IF you buy an extra $400 piece of software and do the conversion yourself.
The rips are NOT Atmos, just multichannel files which, yes, Roon supports.

Of course, I agree with you: Roon cannot play Atmos files directly, just as it can’t directly play DSD ISO files. But, similar to converting DSD ISO files to DSF files playable in Roon, if you do want to do the work and spend the dollars on the DRP, the eight channels of hard coded multichannel files outputted are the same as the DRP itself would play out to those same eight channels from an Atmos TrueHD file. The result is the same but at a cost of dollars and effort.
Yes, it would be great to avoid having to convert DSD ISO or Atmos MKV files to work in Roon, but at least, there are workarounds for both now. JCR
It has been over five years (while basically all of this time Tidal has had Atmos) with almost 300 community votes and as far as I know Roon has not made any comments whatsoever on this feature request. That to me is inexcusable.
That’s just the way Roon does things unfortunately…
Atmos music is taking hold, from millions of earbuds and headphones on the road, to soundbars and true HTs in the home. Artists are mixing with it intentionally now, and the amount and remixing quality of older tracks to Atmos is growing rapidly.
I’m a longtime/lifetime subscriber to Roon. It remains for me the best music management, playback and discovery software on the market. Five years ago, the lack of Atmos support on the platform was understandable though disappointing. But Atmos has plenty of content now and continues to gain traction in the marketplace — that the supposed cutting edge music software still doesn’t support it, and lacks transparency about plans, is a failure at this point.
Yes but in large part because Amazon, Apple & Tidal are demanding that they also submit a Atmos version with the stereo version.

I just don’t understand why complete silence from Roon regarding Atmos support. I cancelled my Roon subscription and won’t return unless/until there is Atmos support. Some sort of messaging would be appreciated. We don’t want to support Atmos? We can’t for technical reasons? We’re trying but don’t know if/when it’ll happen? Tell us something, if no other reason than I can stop following along here holding out hope. ![]()
…and if possible ADM support. Why, after paying $800 (!) for your software, do I need to resort to using Jriver for Atmos playback. If a software program made by a small operation can do it so can you.
@Joachim_Roselio1 - I’ve moved your post to the relevant Feature Suggestion thread.

If i didn’t forget to auto-renew I probably would have cancelled
PotPlayer is free.
the organization etc is great but is it worth 150 a year? not so sure about that anymore
Bumping in the hope Roon will someday address this glaring issue. Put it on the Roadmap? Explain what the difficulties are / have been? Please!
In that case I’ll look for a streamer that will
Are there any plans for this? If so will the Nucleus play it? If not I shall be ceasing my Roon subscription and using the Tidal App.
You can add your vote at the top of this thread. I would assume that since Roon doesn’t directly support Atmos playback, your Nucleus will not, as well.
There are workarounds using the Dolby Reference Player and MMH Atmos Helper to extract 5.1.2 Atmos wav files from mkv files that are playable in Roon, but not for streaming from Tidal. JCR
The Tidal app plays full Atmos from the Apple TV player
Understood — full Atmos — in highly compressed format.
My comment is how Roon can be used to playback 5.1.2 Atmos in full 24/48 uncompressed format. A way better experience than Tidal Atmos or, as I also use, Apple Music Spacial decoded by a MacBook.
Of course, I agree it would be nice if Roon did Atmos natively….JCR
Have you voted at the top of this thread? Only way to make this feature relevant for Roon Inc.
Any update on this ?
