Description of Issue

roon stops randomly every 5-15 min, either playing to douk audio or when grouping douk with other naim devices
2 times dac output hung on a repeat very short sound
restarting playback usually takes more time when in group, aprox 30s
several times problem seems like usb gets dropped, it does not restablish until manually disconnected and reconnected
others no manual disc/rec is required, it just drops and play needs to be pressed for playback to be resumed, if directly to douk with no groups it can take 15-20s

Try using Ethernet from laptop to router. Even temporarily just to see if that helps.

Regardless of how fast or stable your wifi might be, or how well it works in other situations, wifi has inherent limitations that can prevent your Roon Core from functioning optimally.
This is particularly true if you are using grouped Zones.

thanks @Mike_LC , @Placebophile , I’ll give it a try

With ethernet and only douk with no groups it also paused playbackstopped playback, albeit it took some 30 min for that to happen.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Until support gets here one other thing you can try is to listen to music using System Output (your laptop’s speakers) as a Zone.
If this works then it would indicate (or suggest) the issue lies after your Core and not something with the Core itself or your connection between the Core and Router.

I have been having this issue as well. Rebooting the Roon core/server makes it better for a day or so.

so i’ve played with the core connected through ethernet. I still have frequent diaconnections, here I have to add that all things music are connected to a cisco2960 unmanaged switch, except for muso qb. I guess this adds issues of a different kind. I see three types of disconnections

very frequent when adding into zone muso qb and local ndac, seem to be caused by networks being different?

when using only local ndac, disconnections caused by “breathing at” the mobile app, e.g unloking phone, switching to the app from another app, network issues could also be the culprit here, with remote kn general net while core on switch subnet?

when using only local ndac, failure of the connection to the douk audio xmos device, which is by far the most hard to recover from, involving at least manual disconnection from usb, reenabling xmos device, restarting roon, sometimes rebooting the whole thing. granted this last issue might be caused by the device itself, I don’t trust it much

all impressions on possible root causes are provided on the basis of my reading the logs, and I dont trust my interpretation much either

But well all in all, roon seems not to be for the faint of heart to me. I’ve spent the last 2 weeks going through all this instead of enjoying my new dac. I must say naim’s own multiroom has always been flawless, so it’s getting very hard for me to justify the extra cost (both in money and mental health). Also I find support not being really responsive does not make things better.

I would suggest that you bypass the Ethernet switch and connect your Roon Core directly to the router or reboot the Ethernet switch and see what happens. I have seen Roon misbehave when connected to my Ethernet switch and then everything works great when I bypass the Ethernet switch and connect my Roon Core directly to the router.

Thank you for the advice. I will try this but I installed an internet switch also for sound quality reasons so it buggers me to do that.

You’ve got multiple problems with same symptom. I’ll start with questions.

u2pro, what driver are you using? What is this plugged into? This might be a questionable quality XMOS device and therefore could be susceptible to driver problems. However, if its a perfect device you should be using the latest XMOS drivers in exclusive (ASIO, WASAPI, or whatever the driver supports) mode. Being hard to recover from points towards driver problem.

Are your other Naim Mu-So devices stable on their own? Can you group the 2 Mu-Sos together (via RAAT)? Can you group the Mu-Sos and the Uniti together (via RAAT)? Can you play 16/44.1? How about 24/192? Let us know what’s stable on its own then group just those things. If we can find something that is stable it will focus on why the unstable stuff is not.

Then you’ve got grouping issues. First, note that if anything in the group gets out of sync then Roon stops. There is no way around this. The fact you don’t seem to have any 1 stable endpoint suggests that grouping isn’t going to work for you, yet.
