Playback stops prematurely causing overheating on NUC (ref#WVY8TQ)

What’s happening?

· I am experiencing freezes or crashes

Describe the issue

Playback stops just before finishing the last track of the qeueu. Instead of clearing the queue, the timer stops (most of the times) one or two seconds before the end of the track. It's not playing, but the play/pause button suggests that it is in fact still playing. If i dont pause manually, the NUC starts heating up and the fanspeed increases.

Describe your network setup

ROCK on Intel NUC11i7 --> Switch --> KEF LS50W (1st gen). all ethernet connections

Is the NUC in its standard case and is it noisy? How old is it?
It does sound as if your music has not been analysed and it has to do this on demand as you play a track.

Hi Henry, thanks for your reply.
standard case NUC and components are 1 year old.
forgot to mention: this happens when playing Qobuz tracks as well as local tracks.

Music analysis is set as shown below. It’s in Dutch. I think the correct English term is ‘throttled’?
Also: when I play another song or when stop ROON Server via the rock.local interface, the fan immediately slows down.

Hope this helps.

While this is happening the log is filling with dozens of repetitions of this line:

12/09 14:55:37 Trace: [Broker:Transport] [Woonkamer] [zoneplayer/kef] position timer, not triggering 0 position stream ended for KEF speaker
12/09 14:55:38 Trace: [Broker:Transport] [Woonkamer] [zoneplayer/kef] position timer, not triggering 0 position stream ended for KEF speaker

Hi @Bolus,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. This is a known bug that we are currently working on. We have managed to reproduce it in house. I will add the information here to the ticket we have. We will let you know here when a fix is released. Thank you in advance for your patience!

Thank you! Good to know you’re working on it! Looking forward to a fix!

Hi @Bolus,

In the meantime, if you playback audio to other endpoints, not the Kefs, do you experience the same issue?

No. Only with the KEFs.

Thanks for letting us know. That pretty much confirms that you are experiencing the bug I mentioned before. A bug report has been submitted for the dev team to look at. while I can’t comment on exactly when this will happen, it is in the queue. I don’t believe any other details are needed at this moment, so I’ll go ahead and mark this case to close.

Once the changes are ready, we will make a new build of Roon and mention the bug fix in our Software Release Notes section, so I would keep an eye out for improvements in in the next Roon release(s). Thanks!
