Hello @Tampo_Tempo , I’ve added SomaFM: Bossa Beyond
for you. Please check if OK.
Much obliged, @BrianW .
However, the 256K stream, is not working in Roon.
It works just fine in the VLC media player. I tried rebooting my Roon ROCK, just in case, but that didn’t help.
It works for me …
(Although it does take a little while to start - typical with .pls streams as Roon tries all the streams in the playlist)
Is the .aac stream OK?
Do you have troubles with any other radio station?
The 64K AAC stream works fine.
I’m sure there are others, but atm, I know of one other stattion with the same issue.
Generation Soul Disco Funk (mp3 192k)
Likewise, it works perfectly for me in VLC. But in Roon, start-up fails after a second or so.
Both of these stations also work perfectly in Tuner.
I can’t find that in the DB.
So the other SomaFM stations work OK?
I can’t think why it would matter, but I’ve added one of the streams from the MP3 playlist directly - https://ice1.somafm.com/bossa-256-mp3
Try that stream from the station.
Unfortunately, that URL doesn’t work either. In fact, now even the 64K Beyond Bossa stream doesn’t work.
I tried several other SomaFM stations. All with lower bit rates work fine. Those with 256k or 320k bit rates don’t work in Roon (but work fine from other players). For example: Underground 80s & Heavyweight Reggae.
In Roon, when I click play, the station and track details are found, but the start-up fails within a second or two.
Could I be missing some codecs on my Roon ROCK NUC i5?
However, I don’t have any error message about missing codecs on my Roon ROCK web page.
I checked the data/Codecs directory and it contains a 65MB ffmpeg file with a last modified date of 28-Aug-2018.
From the ROCK log file:
03/30 20:22:16 Warn: [80] [streammediafile] error reading stream: Unable to read data from the transport connection: Software caused connection abort.
This station plays fine for me on the 256K streams. BTW, thanks for suggesting the station – I’m enjoying it!
The ffmpeg file on my NUC ROCK is 78.5 MB. The created, modified, and last opened date are all March 2, 2022 (likely the date I set up the system),
I don’t think it’s your codecs. You are able to deal with mp3 and aac streams ok, it’s just the high rates that cause problems. So I suspect your system setup.
Trying a different end-point may help diagnose the problem.
Please open a support request in Support giving details of your setup and the problems you are having. Roon will be able to examine your logs and see where the problem lies.
Happily plays here with my Rock installation. With the latest codec as when I’ve installed it a few weeks ago.
Might be worth grabbing the latest version.
Enjoy! Check out ‘Swiss Groove’ as well.
Good idea to try this, though it didn’t solve the issue in my case (btw, I first tried downloading and copying the latest from my Linux desktop machine to my Roon ROCK NUC i5, but got the ‘Missing codecs’ error. I then tried it from a Mac, and the update was successful).
Much obliged, @BrianW ! That was the problem. It turns out to be a problem with my Sonore ultraRendu. When I tried the 256k Bossa Beyond stream to my iPhone and to my Wavesera WStreamer endpoints, it worked in both cases! I’ll raise an issue with Sonore.
Btw, you can remove that last URL from the station if you like. ‘ice1.somafm.com’ is a direct link to one of their servers, so that URL is likely to break in the future.
Found the following discussion after the fact. It might work better when installing ffmpeg via a Linux desktop (vs copying the file via the Nemo File Manager gui like I did):
I didn’t bother trying since copying from a Mac worked for me. But figured I’d mention this in case someone else trying to install ffmpeg via Linux stumbles upon this.
Probably a permissions error. Some network copies lose the execution flag.
Will do, and yes, that’s why we prefer the .pls forms.
Anyway, good news with your diagnosis.
