Please could someone explain taps in basic terms?!

Hi - I’m a new Roon user and am confused about convolution Taps. I have used some basic filters I created myself with REW and these are 131k Taps for 44.1khz tracks. Ive just added some far better sounding filters using the Focus Fidelity software and these are only 33k Taps for 44.1khz.

Could someone explain in REALLY simple terms what a tap is?? Does fewer taps mean that the filter is lower quality somehow?? Would there be audible improvements in theory with filters with higher number of Taps.

Apologies - from searching I know this has been asked before but I can’t find an answer that I can understand!

Thanks in advance.
