Apparently, not a view held by the designer of the Hugo who admitted that the USB input of the Hugo1 was a weak point in the design.

A lot of DACs have USB inputs that are susceptible to noise. It’s very impotent to use a low noise USB source if you want to get the most out of your the USB port on your DAC.

If you are connecting to a noisy source I agree the SPDIF is better because it has galvanic isolation by design.

Yet not that mentally affordable

It really is pretty low level rocket science. Anyway, I am one of the janitors at the rocket science laboratory, not a scientist. I just eavesdrop in to what they say from time to time.
