I am trying out Plex. I configured RoPieee to start Plexamp and added the claim code. The service does not seem to start – the web UI is not listening, and the Plexamp does not show up as a cast destination. I know the feature requires PlexPass, which I do not have yet, but most Plex stuff seems to work enough to tell you it needs PlexPass, and I wanted to see what the workflow looked like. Should this work at least enough to get an error that I need PlexPass?
Just tested this on my Ropieee (on the latest version), as a Plexpass subscriber and it appears to work fine for me, though I rarely play music from PlexAmp.
I think it may well be the server component stopping this working if you are not a Plex Pass subscriber and I remember that a subscription was a requirement in the past, but not sure if this has changed at all.
I saw this earlier, and think I have a fixed price as a day 1 purchaser. I never went lifetime as I felt they needed more money to keep developing the product and in truth it was too cheap
I commend you for taking into consideration Plex’s survival. The new periodic subscription prices may not change your thinking in that regards however, according to their announcement…
The price increase applies to new and existing subscriptions, with the exception of existing Lifetime Plex Pass holders.
I will continue to watch this space and see how it progresses as I understand they need more income to sustain their work.
I think Plex does valuable work and charging I think $70 at that time for a lifetime license did not feel like it would lead to a sustainable ecosystem.
