Problem with Roon / Chord Poly : incessant dropouts

OK I see. Nope I haven’t touched any settings for Poly in Roon, it’s the default ones.

I just noticed some interresting point : even if i don’t play music but stay connected to Poly audio zone (seeing it on the bottom of the iphone Roon’s app), it also drops the connection and lost the audio zone every few seconds and then come back continuously …

@Bill_Janssen I wish i could play music on the Poly a few hours dropless :sweat_smile:, for me only a few seconds or 1 minute dropless the best moments is what I have … Don’t know if what you see could explain my problem with Poly as i don’t have this issue with the iphone as an audio zone. But that’s interresting and could explain some other kind of dropouts.

This is definitely not normal behaviour and possibly the most indicative symptom of your issues. It’s a shame Roon and Chord engineers aren’t able to chime in here and offer some assistance.

FWIW, and of course this does not help you, but my Mojo2Poly x Roon has worked flawlessly for the couple of months that I’ve had it. It does work, and it works beautifully, and it’s terrible that you aren’t having the same experience. I feel for you.

I’m assuming your phone won’t be connected to 2.4ghz. Could it be that dropping?

I tried with phone connected to 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, same result, the connection between Poly and Core continuously dropouts.

I guess I would start by asking about your core. How is it connected to the network.

I don’t have a solution for you - started reading the thread out of curiosity since I have a Mojo/Poly that works fine with Roon, in spite of my rather complex network setup.

What I would do in your situation is hook up an extra access point to the network and use that as a test instead of your existing wifi that’s shared with many other devices. This would take an important possible point of failure out of the equation, and allow you to experiment with wifi settings if necessary. Based on your logs, my basic suspicion is that your Poly loses its connection to your network periodically.

I realize this suggestion may not be easy to follow if you don’t happen to have extra APs sitting on the shelf :slight_smile: Good luck!

If its loosing connection to the core then this is likely some network discovery issue that the mojos wifi is more susceptible to. Is you wifi using dual ssid for 5ghz and 2.4ghz or just one for both? Often lesser wifi chips struggle with ssid thats both frequencies and can get to work when they are split. Worth a punt if you can do this on your router. Also maybe worth checking if there is some multicast settings that might need toggling. Even though it works with your phone this stuff can not work on other things. I always has issues with a Samsung phone and Netgear routers with Roon, got rid of the router and it worked perfectly after that.

@Oliver_Sturm i was thinking of adding a wifi access point to my network or maybe a mesh system … i’m not sure which, maybe a Netgear WAX206 or an Orbi (expensive for what it is) or i don’t know … any suggestion ?

@CrystalGipsy yes i use the dual 2.4 Ghz / 5 GHz with 2 different SSID. There isn’t any settings about broadcast / multicast on my router.

@KelFab I tend to go with devices that target a professional market, because they’re cheaper and often have more features (or at least the ones I’m interested in). For instance, the TP-Link AC1750 is a good access point I use at this time (three of them, in fact). It does not support Wifi 6, but even with my ~950 Mbps internet connection I don’t need Wifi 6. I don’t necessarily suggest you do the same, but unfortunately I can’t recommend anything if you’re going for technology’s bleeding edge.

Of course, for a test with a 2.4MHz device, almost any old AP will do! I usually have a few older generation ones hanging around - I realize that may not help you, but maybe you can borrow or find one to test before you invest in a new one?

In fact i have some wifi range issues in my house so i was already thinking about a way to extend it before having problems with the Poly. So maybe i could kill two birds with one stone here …

Some news …

It seems that since last update of Roon (just did it yesterday) the issue has changed.
I no longer have complete losses of connection of the Poly Roon endpoint (Poly endpoint disapearing from the enpoints list), however there are still small pauses from time to time during playback and a few immediate skips to the next song with the message: “Qobuz is loading slowly …”

So it’s better but still not flawless …

Btw i ordered a TP-Link Deco X90 kit (2 packs), let’s see if that solves the problem ! :slight_smile:

Are you using the latest Poly firmware? There were some improvements in this area with their latest updates.
