Qobuz Dropouts on Synology

Core Machine (Operating system/System info/Roon build number)
Synology / DS218+ 2GHzx2, 6GB RAM, 2xWD30EFRX Mirrored, Samsung 128GB Fit Plus USB3.1 / Roon 1.7 (521)

Network Details (Including networking gear model/manufacturer and if on WiFi/Ethernet)
All wired; CAT6; Netgear switches

Audio Devices (Specify what device you’re using and its connection type - USB/HDMI/etc.)
Windows 10 PC connected to Schiit Audio Gungnir

Description Of Issue
When streaming from Qobuz (any resolution), the intense network activity from caching causing the CPU of the Synology to spike leading to dropouts (See logs below). Once cached (15-30s), playback proceeds flawlessly. This only happens with Qobuz. Local files up to 192/24 play fine start to finish.

Is there a way to specify some kind of limit on how aggressively Roon caches from Qobuz?

Update: I’m actually seeing this happen now throughout normal playback, not just during caching. Jumped the gun a bit on a theory / diagnosis, I think. Title updated.

That Synology is underpowered to run Roon. The DS218+ has a Celeron processor when you needed an i3 or better.

Ah, I see.

Recommendation? The recommendation on the official NAS page is 2 years old…

i3 or better. The recommendation is not going to get softer.

Hi @Jonathan_Terleski,

The amount of power you’ll need for the Core will depend on how large your library is and how much you plan on doing (multiple zones, DSP, etc.) but as a start you can check out our basic requirements here.
