I'm using Dropbox for my DataBase backup but I'd like to know if Roon has full access to my Dropbox or just the folder I designated for backup. I believe the difference is know as "Full Dropbox" vs "App Folder". Thanks!
Describe your network setup
Netgear Router, Unique for internal wifi, Roon is running on a modern NAS with the database on an SSD USB-C external drive.
Hi @jakegoat,
Thanks for reaching out to ask us about this. We usually don’t recommend using Dropbox as a backup location for Roon. If both Roon and Dropbox try to write to that file location at the same time it can cause conflicts. If you still want to use Dropbox to store backups you can manually copy over backups into your dropbox location which would avoid the conflicts.
To answer your question Roon should only have access to the exact file path you gave it. So if the file path in Roon settings → Backup is to the root Dropbox folder then it has full access. If you gave it a subfolder in Dropbox it only has access to that.
Ok, thank you. Thats great to know. Dropbox wasn’t my first choice but when I tried to point the backup folder to a different one of my NAS (no where near the database external USB drive) I got a ‘directory not found’ error - or very similar, I could send the exact wording to you tonight if needed, but I’m sure you’re familiar.
I tried a combination of different levels of folders to select for the Roon backup and got the same issue for anywhere on the NAS. Dropbox was the only option that worked.
Maybe you could advise me how I could get the NAS backup going? It would be preferred.
