Playing Radio Paradise stations natively on my NAD M33 (BluOS) displays the album cover. However, playing the same station on Roon displays the station logo instead. Also, I’m able to skip tracks on the NAD M33, but not in Roon.
Why is Roon not able to support the above two features? Does BluOS have access to some proprietary API on Radio Paradise that Roon doesn’t?
I wish Roon had these features because I’d like to play all my music through Roon, to take advantage of the big iPad used as a dedicated Roon remote, Ropiee display, Roon displays, etc.
Well, I was having trouble putting Radio Paradise on Roon. I’ve been listening to Radio Paradise since 2009 when I was just starting out through squeezebox. Well, I think the problem is a payment issue. Maybe Roon has to pay Radio Paradise for this type of access. I recently tested Radio Paradise on the WiiM without running Roon and it’s the same problem. It doesn’t show the cover, it shows the track name, artist… but not the cover. I could be wrong, but I think it’s something that Roon or others need to pay for to have access to. But I think that if that’s the case, Radio Paradise could have a subscription model where if you use any app, it would be shown. Anyway, it’s hard to know why.
Yes it’s an api thing. Roon is purely using it as basic internet radio station and not utilising the api like BluOs does. BluOs also have some unique stuff that is between them and Radio Paradise.
Roon doesn’t currently offer anything other than streaming services for integration. There are many posts asking for them to add a more integrated approach I suggest you search for them and add your vote or add one to Feature requests.
No, there is no payment required. It is simply a matter of software using this information, such as LMS (squeezebox) does with a plugin, and others have done. Evidently Roon software doesn’t include this integration.
Ok. Another feature of BluOS is, starting a RP channel starts playing form the start of the track, whereas Roon starts playback from the current “live” position.
One could argue Live Radio shouldn’t allow you to skip a track or start from the beginning of track. It breaks the intent and spirit of Live . However, album cover will be real nice.

BluOS also offers Thumb-Up/-Down which adds to Your RP profile as rating 8/2. Thumb-up adds the song to “My Mix” which can be played as a separate station and/or exported/imported to Tidal/Qubuz (–>Roon).
Having this fully integrated into Roon with access to the metadata and the option to Add songs to Your Library or Ban while sending feedback to the RP Profile in paralell would be Magic.
Yeah, RP is more of a hybrid. It can be a live radio or you can choose different channels, or you can choose “my mix” if you’ve set up an account and favorited things.
You can add tracks from radio paradise to Roon already but via the streaming service you have. If you click on the album metadata if available in your service it will go to it and you can add it to Roon then.
Awful is a bit strong, limited perhaps but not awful. Remember RP has developed into more than a radio station which is all it was when Roon added it to Radio. Integration a completely different type of service into Roon isn’t something they would do lightly they would need enough interest and if the APi would work with their infrastructure. Qobuz, Tidal and KKbox work a lot differently and maintain libraries you can browse. RP does not. If enough request it I am sure in time they will look perhaps to integrate more using the now available API.
Hi. Yes, RP developed but it was many years ago (at least 5 in my experience so probably longer). Both Sonos, Innuos and Bluesound have much better solutions than Roon and integrated them 5 years or so back. Innuos more recently. There is significant interest in Radio Paradise. There would be a LOT more interest from Roon users if it was integrated properly (not a mere internet radio stream). I wonder if there is a way to vote for feature requests in Roon now that they have more resources from Samsung/Harman?
You look for posts in Feedback/feature requests and vote for them. If you can’t find one for this create one and add your vote.‘I have seen others ask for it so you should find something.
Roon is very slow to do these things, so far I haven’t bought the lifetime plan, because I’m analyzing a lot of things to decide whether to stay with Roon or not, I have and we will have many interesting solutions from now on, there is a war between these streams, which was started by the WiiM and will certainly change other manufacturers, even because this is software, it’s simpler than making hardware. The WiiM Ultra, less than 2 months after delivery, has already implemented Radio Paradise… and I see colleagues here struggling with this and with Roon for more than 5 years… I remember listening to Radio Paradise in 2009 with my squeezebox.
Not struggling I have been using it for years with Roon. Don’t have any issues as I don’t care for the other features they are nice things to have but just not essential and doesn’t ruin the experience because I can’t skip or see artwork. It’s like saying all other music software ruins your experience because it doesn’t work like Roon does.
If I choose to listen to RP it because I want to hear stuff I don’t normally play and get some new inspiration or just background when I have people over. I just take in what it throws at me. Much like I see no need for banning music via Roon. Discovery is the spice of musical life and branching out sometimes is the best way to achieve it. If one can’t listen to a few songs you may or don’t like then life may well be a bit short. Live a little.
