Radio stations won't play on my setup, but music playback from Qobuz works fine
Describe your network setup
Roon server (note that tailscale is activated, DNS is not activated in tailscale) <> NAS (Synology and note that tailscale is running as well)<> PC with roon sofware (no tailscale)
Thank you for reaching out to Roon Support and welcome to our comunity!
Could you kindly clarify whether you’re experiencing the issue with the built-in radio stations available under the “Live Radio” section of the Roon app, or with your own custom stations added under the “My Live Radio” tab in My Library?
This will help us better understand the scope of the issue and assist you accordingly.
Did you make sure that you have the required codecs installed/available on your Roon Server machine? What is your Roon Server installation (Windows, MacOS, Linux, NAS)?
Thank you for the update. I’ve checked a few radio stations from France on my end, and everything appears to be running smoothly.
I went ahead and enabled diagnostics mode for your account, but unfortunately, your system isn’t reaching our servers — even after multiple attempts to re-enable diagnostics. I also ran a quick test from my setup and was able to submit a similar report successfully, so this points to something specific in your network setup.
I’m particularly curious about the DNS settings on your Nucleus One. Have you configured any DNS servers directly on the Nucleus One?
As a test, could you try manually setting the DNS servers to Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or Google DNS (8.8.8.8) both on the Nucleus One and within your Tailscale configuration?
You can check the Nucleus network settings using the WebUI
Let us know the results after applying those changes so we can continue troubleshooting.
Thank you! I think you are right, there is something wrong with the DNS…My DHCP is managed on a NAS, I don’t know why it does not work for the moment, I will investigate (but the DNS is well taken on the other devices…).
Yes, a Nucleus should ship with the required Codecs, like using Windows or MacOS. However, if you used ROCK, you would have to provide and copy in the ffmpeg codec.
Hi @Rodolphe_Linais,
Thanks for the update.
Let us know what you find in your investigation — especially around how the NAS is assigning DHCP and whether there are any conflicts or misconfigurations. We’re happy to help further if you need it!
I think the network settings are correct. Also, some radio stations work (BBC Radio 2 works), but others don’t (BBC World Service, France Inter)… I don’t understand why for now!
Hi @Rodolphe_Linais,
Thanks for the additional details. I think the next step here is to take a look at your logs. I activated diagnostics on your Roon server but it looks like your server wasn’t able to receive the request. Can you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!
The problem comes from my Tailscale configuration. I had indeed set it up to use a DNS via Tailscale, redirecting to my NAS… I must have made a configuration mistake. Thank you all for the help you provided.
Hi @Rodolphe_Linais,
Thanks for letting us know what the issue was. Are you having any further problems? If not feel free to mark your comment as the solution.
