I am currently using a RaspberryPi (zero) with an Allo Boss DAC which outputs RCA into RCA in on my SimAudio 340 amplifier. I am wondering if it is worth the cost to get a DAC that does XLR out so I can use the balanced XLR on my amp. I’d need to, I think, get a new pi if I wanted to use the HiFi berry XLR dac, and a new case..
Any thoughts? It’s only money… Alternatively I’ve seen the Orchard Audio versions for significantly more..

Are you trying to solve a problem or just fancy an upgrade?
If you don’t experience noise problems then the discussion is moot. In a studio balanced is necessary, but I’m less inclined to agree that it is beneficial in a hi-fi rack with very short interconnects.
Moreover, adding balanced outputs does necessiate additional electronics in the DAC, i.e. an inverter, and this may negate any potential benefit. If unbalanced achieves the design goals for noise, then it is fine.
