If you are running Roon Server on your Innuos Zen Mini, and you are attempting to add a network-shared folder on your Mac as a Backup folder, then all the attempts you listed in your above post are not in the correct format.
That format (for a Mac networked-shared folder) is simply either:
smb://IP_address of your Mac/folder_name
or smb://the hostname of your Mac/folder_name
Sorry. I’m now totally confused. This guidance to find and use an IP address is entirely new after a lot of previous back and forth. I’ve now gone to General > Sharing > File Sharing per your guidance above. There are no IP addresses listed or available that I can see / find, only the names of the folders I have previously provided. Is there more specific guidance, please?
Hi @Mark_Osborn,
Sorry about the confusion. @noris is pointing you to the hostname which you will see in this part of the file sharing screen.
You can use that hostname as @Geoff_Coupe showed in his comment.
As an example if I wanted to share a folder named Music from my Mac the path would be smb://macbook-pro/Music
If you have any other question or need some more help please let us know! We’re happy to help.
Thank you. I found the IP address using the information provided in the latest response I received. I’ve attempted to input that information into the Add Network Share input in the Roon app as directed but, when I do, I get an error message that reads "There was an unexpected error: Invalid Network Path. If I add both the IP address and the names of the share files I setup, I get an error message that reads There was an unexpected error: UnexpectedError.
Thank you for getting back to us. To keep everything organized, I’ve moved your new topic to the existing thread.
Would you kindly provide a screenshot showing what you’ve entered in the Roon > Backup settings path, as requested by @noris in his last reply? This will help us better understand the issue and assist you more effectively.
Hi, the topic was automatically closed due to the lack of activity (10 days).
I’ve reopened it, so you can now respond to @benjamin and @vadim information requests.
Thanks for sticking with us here! I’m curious - what are you attempting to do with the ‘sites’ folder? If your ‘users’ folder didn’t work out for you, let’s stick to your RoonBackups folder. Make sure that each subfolder holding your RoonBackups folder also has the same share permissions as your Backups folder.
Are you filling out your macOS username and password as well?
Hi Benjamin - Looks like we’ve finally had a breakthrough. I was using the ‘Sites’ folder because I was specifically directed earlier in the thread NOT to use the RoonBackups folder. Based on your guidance above, I’ve reverted to the RoonBackups folder and added my username and password. It appears Roon now sees the file location. See photo attached. Do I select ‘roon_backup_root’ as the backup folder?
