Regular Playback Stoppage with Primare SC15 MKII Zone (ref#ABLFWF)

· Music stops playing unexpectedly

What type of Zone is affected by this problem?

· *Network Zones* are affected.

Is the affected network Zone connected with Ethernet or WiFi?

· Ethernet

Does the issue affect all file formats?

· The issue affects *multiple/all* file formats.

Does the issue happen with local library music, streaming service music, or both?

· *Mostly local* *library* music are affected.

Do you encounter any playback errors with the "System Output" Zone?

· The System Output has *no problem*, it's only my other Zone.

How is the affected Zone connected to your RoonServer machine?

· Network - Ethernet

Which network audio protocol is the Zone using with Roon?

· RoonReady

Does the device show up at all in Roon Settings -> Audio?

· Yes, it shows up there

Does the "Enable" button unlock the Zone?

· There are no issues seeing or selecting the zone

Does the device play audio from another source when using the same connection?

· The device has no problems with another audio source

Have you checked that Roon is whitelisted in any firewalls?

· I've checked the firewall and the issue remains

If the device has multiple output options, do the other options work as expected?

· Only one output type is affected while the other output type works as expected

Is the device using the latest firmware as per the manufacturer?

· Firmware is up-to-date but the issue remains

Do you have an approximate timestamp of when the issue last occurred?

Describe the issue

Playback regularly stops, just pausing playback, or sometimes flashing up 'select an audio zone', indicating the zone is reloaded when the issue occurs. The issue happens more consistently when I've disabled volume levelling for the zone. The Roon zone device is the Primare SC15 MKII

Describe your network setup

WIndows PC running Roon server, ethernet connected to router (Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000). Router is ethernet connected to the Streamer (Primare SC15)

Thank you, yes I tried reinstalling Roon to see if that would resolve the issue, however the issue continued to occur on the same track and occasional other tracks over the last week.

I was able to reproduce the issue with a different track just now from:
05/21 19:41:05 to 05/21 19:47:35.
This track would play for a few seconds, then stop, audio device would dissappear, then reappear. Pressing play would play a few more seconds then stop, and was repeatable

It doesn’t appear to depend on the volume levelling for the zone like I initially thought.

As a follow-up test, are you able to reproduce the issue without DSP enabled? Does it happen no matter the file resolution of the track playing?

If you can, it may be helpful to review your router settings and check if you can allocate network priority to the SC15 and see if that helps with your issue as well.

Thanks, yes, I didn’t have DSP on, but I turned off volume levelling to test as well and found the issue continued to occur. I’ve seen the issue occur on various file resolutions and formats (44.1/16, 24bit, MQA files, non-MQA files, local files, streamed TIDAL files). The files play fine in other zones using ropieee devices (which are over wifi).

The issue continued to occur after setting network priority for the SC15 and the roon server. As a further test, I replaced my router with a different Netgear R8500 with only the Roon Server, Streamer (SC15) and the internet attached and the issue still occured.

This further testing was from 05/22 09:32 for around an hour with the new router, etc. Appreciate the assistance.

Sorry to ask this but can you reproduce the issue with a local track, and share the track name?

We’re seeing the following error around certain Tidal tracks:

STREAM => Unauthorized {"status":401,"subStatus":4006,"userMessage":"Session does not have streaming privileges"}

I don’t believe this to be related to the issue you’re experiencing, though. It could be a regional availability situation, depending on your location. Let us know when you’re able to reproduce the issue with a local track, and we’ll take another look. Thank you!

Thanks, I have seen some improvement over the last week, however it still does fail on those specific tracks when I queue them up which is odd. My use case is standard listening to music in several zones around the house, primarily to the Prisma SC15, with other zones that I use a lot less that are Wifi Ropiee devices and a couple attached to the PC (an onboard sound card and a USB device to transmit to a bluetooth speaker).

I recently integrated Home Assistant to Roon and I am primarily using this for a Home Assistant dashboard running on an IPad showing the current track playing, and an automation that detects when Roon playback starts on the Roon Prisma zone to run some IR commands to turn off the TV if it was on (basically it automatically detects when I finish watching TV and start listening to music to turn off the TV).

The issue had been occuring prior to my integration with HA though, so I rather suspect it is an issue perhaps with my PC given the issue seems to have improved after making a few tweaks on it, although it is too early to tell for sure. Happy at this point to close the topic and if the issue comes back to an unacceptable level I will look into upgrading my PC and/or raise another topic if I have more specific examples.
