UPNP streaming from Foobar 2000 isn’t working anymore.
Foobar sees the device and service Identified as Multiplayer2 (given hostname) [RoPieeeXL]-UPnP/AV
It still works as a ROON endpoint.
I identified a part of the problem.
After installing Foobar 2000 on another windows PC that normally runs without a local firewall UPNP streaming worked there. Streaming stopped with an active firewall with standard settings. @spockfish
Dns is not in RoPieee but on your network, RoPieee just try to access a specific address on the internet to receive updates.
Try to set on your router, if you can, Google dns ( 8.8.8.8 ) and/or Cloudflare ( 1.1.1.1 )
It’s getting weird.
I last used UPNP streaming to Ropieee to just around 1 AM on October 6th with the local firewall active as usual, and with the previous version of Ropieee.
In the last hours i cleared out every trace of Foobar 2000 that i could find on my main PC (the one with the problems)
That also included specific firewall rules applying to Foobar’s permissions.
Restarted my PC, and the local firewall, and reinstalled the necessary files.
No luck.
UPNP streaming to Ropieee only works with the local firewall turned off on every machine i tried it on earlier.
I just did the same test on a third machine. Installed the necessary files on another windows machine with all firewall types active. It worked immediately.
Firewall issue confirmed.
But where to begin with troubleshooting?
I am at a loss regarding the firewall settings on my main PC. Before the update, Foobar was able to discover and play trough the UPNP portion of the former RopieeeXL without any adjustments to Windows defender (Windows 11). Nowadays i still need to disable the firewall for the local network.
Hardly acceptable in the long run.
Please fix that issue.
Pardon my ignorance.
RopieeeXL worked without any form of firewall issues. The same can’t be said for the current forced update. It won’t allow me to use UPNP streaming without disabling the private/ local firewall.
On every system i have here running windows 11 server 2019 and 2022 the only system allowing an active firewall is the windows 2019 version with no altered settings whatsoever.
Thank you @spockfish (Harry) for this great FREE app you have provided us. I run two RPi4’s with never a problem.
EDIT: I haven’t fooled with Audirvana in a while, but after seeing this, I am now playing Audirvana 3.5 over WIFI UPnP to my RPi4 running the latest RoPieee version with no issues. I’m playing a Qobuz 24/192 version of Chicago Transit Authority first album.
The Audirvana 3.5 program runs on my Windows 11 laptop. My Roon servers include a Nucleus, Mac Mini, and Window 11 laptop. RoPieee works with everything.
I’m not familiar with Audirvana. Does it run as a app / program within a version of a mostly Windows based system in your setup?
My issue surfaced after the forced update in the early hours of sept 26 from the RopieeeXL version to the current one.
Happily using ROON RAAT streaming intermittent with CD rip checks via Foobar 2000 UPNP streaming a day earlier, and no luck a day after. No deliberate changes on the Windows 11 install and setting. And. no auto updates either.
Thank you for the extra info about your system @Jim_F
My issue is confusing at the least. One day it works, the next day it doesn’t.
@spockfish My current system runs on a 1:1 copy from the system drive from my previous system that was “retired” about 10 weeks ago prior to the latest windows updates and other app and program changes. I’m planning on hooking the completely untouched previous system up to my network again with internet access physically disabled. (To prevent automatic updates and changes) UPNP streaming from a system that isn’t updated / nor changed and worked with a Ropieee version that was last updated way over a year ago should have no problem with the all new and updated Ropieee.
Or ??? I’ll report back as soon as a can.
Sorry, you’re wrong. Everything works on my new system. No exceptions whatsoever. @Jim_F
Except UPNP streaming to Ropieee with an active private firewall also without changes in settings overnight. I repeat: I went to bed with working UPNP streaming capabilities to the previous Ropieee version, and woke up a to a non working system after a forced update from Ropieee and no changes whatsoever at that point in time to my current system I’m sure of that because it was completely shut down like most nights.
